Ok guys i need some help deciding on an amp...
ok i need an acoustic amp... i would say a new one but ive been playing my acoustic through a 15 watt marshall practice amp, and yes i use that amp to "gig" and by gig i mean play with a full band and chorus at my church. because that little 15 watt jobber has been so good (and loud) to me ive decided to stay with marshall so now i have to decide between their 50 and 100 watt acoustic models. trouble is i dont kow much about amps, so i dunno what alot of the specs mean. i do know that 50 watts is plenty of power for me so thats not an issue (ive been working with 15 for so long 50 sounds like heaven)
ok so here is all i understand about the differences bewteen the amps:
i know the 100 watt has 4 channels as opposed to 2 but because each channel has 2 inputs (mic and 1/4 inch) couldnt i attatch up to four things to the 50? the most i would have is 3, my guitar, my mic, and our vocalists mic.
i dont know what a phase switch is, but they both have it so w/e
now what is phantom power? i have no clue what the hell that is
i also understand that the 100 is stereo, but because both the left and the right are right next to eachother (output wise) does that really affect anything?
i dont know what a channel assignable chorus is
what use would the digital stereo fx serve me? because i cant see how i would ever use them because i have pedals for that.
50 watt specs
http://www.marshallamps.com/product.asp ... Type=SPECS
100 watt specs
http://www.marshallamps.com/product.asp ... Type=SPECS
anyone that can shed any light onto why i would spend 250 more dollars on the 100 watt please tell me! thanks!

I dont know much, and it seems that youve got your mind made up on brands, but from what everyone on the boards says, these are the best acoustic amps out there: http://www.shorelinemusic.com/amplifica ... ound.shtml

yeh yeh yeh ive raped that site in every link. those amps arent too appealing to me and i highly doubt that anyone on the boards has actually played one, im pretty sure theyve just heard how awesome they are.jsgksu wrote:I dont know much, and it seems that youve got your mind made up on brands, but from what everyone on the boards says, these are the best acoustic amps out there: http://www.shorelinemusic.com/amplifica ... ound.shtml
that being said i enter their "win my rig contest" everyday and have done so since it began. im pretty set on marshall, my little 15er has been too good to me to go elsewhere

My instructor actually had one of the ultrasound amps and it sounded great. He said the only amps he's had that were better are the AER amps he uses now.praisedave wrote:yeh yeh yeh ive raped that site in every link. those amps arent too appealing to me and i highly doubt that anyone on the boards has actually played one, im pretty sure theyve just heard how awesome they are.jsgksu wrote:I dont know much, and it seems that youve got your mind made up on brands, but from what everyone on the boards says, these are the best acoustic amps out there: http://www.shorelinemusic.com/amplifica ... ound.shtml

Andy....I have the Ultrasound AG50-DS2 and play it alot. I am in the praise band at my church and have played every Sunday (for the most part) for the last 2 years.
I did a lot of research before I bought mine and I can truely say that, IMHO, they are the best acoustic amps out there within a resonable price range. You can go with a Matchless, but who wants to spend several grand (I would rather buy another guitar)?
The AG50 is small (and light) enough to cart around and can still fill a small/medium size room up with sound.
I would do yourself a favor and give them a second consideration before you buy something else.

You're only as strong as the tables you dance on.

and yeh i use my 15 watt in my churches praise group in our church which has 600 seats and it works just fine. that little thing has always blown me away. the fact that it can be heard over a full chorus, piano, drums, bass, and horn section in a room that size just really draws me to marshall.
regarding the comment above: what does "phantom power" do for condenser mics? if im gonna use a condenser do i need phantom power?

ok so condenser mics require a power source so instead of having them outside its just built into the port like usb... gotcha...crash_in_to_me wrote:it just powers them, and if you are going to use a condenser you NEED phantom power, whether its form the amp of an inline sourcepraisedave wrote:regarding the comment above: what does "phantom power" do for condenser mics? if im gonna use a condenser do i need phantom power?

now as i was debating over this amp question i picked up my issue of Acoustic Guitar that came today and that had an article on this little puppy... anyone have any thoughts on it?

ive also always thought specs wise the fishman loudbox was a great choice, i had just never heard anyone talk about it so i assumed it was sort of a flop, can anyone speak on it?

Im in the market for a reasonable priced acoustic amp too. I just wanted to say thanks for the info so far and keep the thread rolling...
edit: Also is there a better site that sells those ultrasound amps? They all look nice, but it would be cool if I could find a place that had better pictures and specs...
