Iris

Unread post by Thomas » Mon Feb 13, 2006 6:50 pm

*first off, I've searched but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.

A friend of mine wants me to learn Iris by the goo goo dolls and once I saw the tunning I didn't even want to touch it. I've found a few tabs in standard tunning that sound really good but not one of them does any kind of justice to the intro.

Does anyone know of a tab for the iris intro in standard tuning that actually sounds like it?

Code: Select all

INTRO:

strum these chords...
e-----------------------------------
b-------------------3--3--3--3--3---
g--7---6---6/7--7---x--x--x--x-(0)--
d--0---0---0----0---5--4--5--4--0---
a--x---x---x----x---x--x--x--x-(5)--
e-10--10--10---10---5--5--5--5--5---

if you want, on the last set of chords you can change the bass note from the A on the E string to the D on the A string (x55x3x).

VERSE:

Chords: (i don't know the proper names, so i'm just going with what the bass note is)
 D E G Bm A
--------------------
-3---3---3---3---3--
-x---0---0---x---x--
-4---x---0---4---2--
-5---2---x---2---0--
-----0---3----------

Hit the bass note before strumming the chord

        D E G G
And I'd give up forever to touch you
        Bm A G G
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
           D E G G
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
      Bm A G G
And I don't want to go home right now

CHORUS:
Same as the second part of verse, you don't have to hit the bass note if you don't want to

      Bm A G G
And I don't want the world to see me
        Bm A G G
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
     Bm A G G
When everything's made to be broken
       Bm A G G
I just want you to know who I am

For the chorus, if you want to act Davish, you can use these chords instead for the chorus:
Bm= 7547xx
A=  54x7xx
G=  3x07xx  or  3x003x

Back to intro, then verse, then chorus

BREAKDOWN:

This part is play right after the second chorus. if you'd like, you can play the intro again, then into the second part of the breakdown, but this is what I play:
   Bm D/C# D Bm A G
-------------------------------------------------------------
---3----3----3--3-------3----3----3--3-----------------------
---x----2----x--x-------x----x----0--0-----------------------
---4----x----4--4-------4----2----0--0----x2-----------------
-2-2--4-4--5-5--5-----2-2--0-0----x--x-----------------------
--------------------------------3-3--3-----------------------

PART 2:

same chords as above:

1.)
Bm Bm Bm Bm.... D/C# D/C# D/C# D/C#.... D/C# D

2.)
G G G G G/B G/B G G/B G/E

G/B= 2x003x

G/E= 0x0030

Play 1 and 2 together 3 times, then play 1 once more, then:

(4/4 time)

| G - - - | G/B - - - | G - - - | Bm - - A |

| G - - - | G/B - - - | G/E - - - | Bm - - D/C# |

| G - - - | G/B - - - | G/E - - - | Bm A G G/B | B/E D - - |

The last D above is an open D (xx0232)

Then back to the first part of the Breakdown (Bm D/C# D , Bm A G)

Then Chorus

Then First part of the breakdown again until fade

END

The key is to let the D on the B string ring out as much as possible (since the tuning is BDDDDD)

I can host some audio to help you too if you'd like

Hey Dino, that ever work for you? It's a little more complicated, but if you listen to the way I played it, you'll figure it out.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": Dr. Peter Venkman: I make it a rule never to get involved with possessed people. Actually it's more of a guideline than a rule.
