My newest original - something I wrote yesterday. Any feedback is really appreciated.

Lyrics:

two to nine, should have seen it coming
could have slowed our lives down, but we kept running
and i've that feeling from the start
from a common man's eye, to this common man's heart
and it's white on white
in my fight or flight
white on white tonight
in this haunting linoleum white
and i'm on my knees
settle down my old man, settle down
if god is on your side, he'll stick around
that light is brilliant on you and i
familiarly unfamiliar, the angels in that light
and it's white on white
in your fight or flight
white on white tonight
in this haunting linoleum white
and we're on our knees, please
and we're on our knees

Superb Brian. "If God is on your side, He'll stick around." Reading that line gave me chills. I know this song is about the situation with your Dad, and I can only hope that this helped you through it.

I had three summers in a row where my Grandmother died of cancer, my cousin died of juvenile Diabetes complications, and my Grandfather spent a year in the hospital after open-heart surgery and then died after battling numerous complications. I always wanted to write a song like this one and couldn't get my words down. Only recently have I been able to grasp the gravity of the situation and write something mildly accurate.
For this I commend and thank you. All the best to you.

Thank you so much man. I'm sorry you had to go through three summers in a row like that. I find it so interesting that death is the one thing we all have in common, yet we never really understand it.

For some clarification, this song mainly came from the emotions of the night of my father's aneurysm. They took an MRI of his chest and saw that his aorta had grown from 2 to 9 inches and ruptured. They told him and my mother that they'd have to perform emergency surgery and that he probably wouldn't make it. I wish I could have been there, but my mother called me right away and I made a two hour drive about an hour. But all I could do was wait. For six hours, not knowing what's going on back in that operating room. My mother (through tears) told me that he had said, "tell the boys my love will always live in their hearts," and I kept playing that over and over in my head. Each time, I'd just crumble.

When the surgery was finally over, the doctor came out and said the surgery was a success, but there was still a chance he'd pass away that night. We were allowed to go back and see him. I just wasn't prepared for it. I saw him laying there, breathing tube in his mouth, stomach-draining tube from his nose, wires all over, unbelievably swollen. I tried to talk to him but I didn't have the ability to speak. I immediately felt nauseated and to avoid fainting, kneeled down on the floor and crawled to the nearest bathroom, where I cried uncontrollably for about fifteen minutes.

But he's doing okay now. A long road ahead, but doing okay.

It hurts. God does it hurt.

I'm really happy to know he's doing alright. Hang tough Brian. Just hang in there.

I think he was 25/26. His death was almost entirely of his own doing, however. He was Insulin dependant and did not inject himself regularly, he drank like a fish, ate whatever he wanted, never, ever checked his blood sugar, and did tons upon tons of drugs. He was in Renal failure and on dialysis five days a week for a full year before he took a "muscle relaxer" from one of his friends one day, and whatever it was apparently screwed his liver so to the point he couldn't recover.

He was out of control, on a downward spiral since he started. A lot of us saw it coming, but that doesn't make it any less tragic for one's life to just be thrown away. He could have managed it and been in such better shape.

man thats alot to go through. I have not really had to go through the whole death thing yet so no telling how things are going to do when it omes to bite me in the arse. Great song, you are an older guy arnt u? you have a great country style, i love ur voice, great job.

-edit- this is one of the best songs i have heard on here. Your recording is realy simplistic but sounds great, good ear on it. I can't say enough on ur voice, i really like it, it' almost like an old country western willy nelson/ johnny cash thing, i gata ask, how old are you, because it sound like you are like 50 at least. This isnt a bad thing, just weird because im guessing ur not that old.

Thanks a lot for the replies thus far. mattinbeloit, I'm 22 years old and I'm not sure how I feel about sounding like a senior citizen. But I guess that's alright. Thanks again.

Well, I guess reading something aloud and recording it wouldn't be a big deal, if you or anyone else would like. Let me know (and let me know what to read  ).

read an exceptionally erotic selection from a romance novel.
