Grace is Gone

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Grace is Gone

Unread post by Taylor2885 » Mon Feb 06, 2006 1:33 am

I've been a regular at this sight for a couple years now and i always check out the message boards to see if I can learn something new, first time message boarder however. So yes, I'm hoping for the "dmbtabs.com, welcome to it" and "can't say it enough," whole shpeal. But my real problem is that I've been playing probably 90% of dave songs for years now, so why am i having so much trouble with Grace is Gone? This is the only Dave song that I've not been able to conquer yet, any clues on to what I might be doing wrong? I know there is so much variation but i'm usually fine with that. I'm confused as to why i'm not catching on to the song patern.

Well it's a fingerpicking song, which many of Dave's aren't. This one took a bit of practice for me too...not really sure what to suggest.

Are you following the fingering guide on the tab from the main site? I know that might simplify things if you're not...

EDIT: Nitro beat me to it... ;)

Can't say it enough...

And SillyPutty I've studied the main tab, just still havin trouble figurin it out for some reason .. i know eventually it's going to be an "Oh!! that's it" kind of discovery but i didn't know if there was any good vids of dave doin it solo or live with the band, other than the gorge of course

it (seems) impossible to learn this song via the tab, however if you just think its a d with changing base notes it becomes as easy as butterfly or where are you going. work out the base notes then just pluck randomly for about 5 min and your mind fills in the gaps,
Gervais on Rosa Parks "she was arrested but then that law was changed- but she didnt stop there, she started sitting in the seats saved for disabled people. unbelavable, she talked to the driver when the bus was in motion- did she have the correct change ready? - did she bollox!"

I've always used a pick for this. I'm not saying one way is better than the other, but I do think that if you learn this song with a pick it'll help you get more comfortable with a pick in your hands, since you have to keep your hand moving pretty much at all times.

Your hand should never stop.. it'll almost look like your strumming the song.
