k since we're talking about not drinking before you go on stage...lets talk about my first open mic. im not sure if ive already told this story...but sue me.
so i get there, waiting on my turn, get up on stage and my guitar somehow fell out of tune on the way over there...not a big deal, but im having the hardest damn time retuning. nothing sounds right. my buddy's all ready to go and everyone is just staring at me while i tune my guitar by ear....w/ my tuner sitting on the ground right beside me. forgot it was even there.
then i said ok im ready, went to grab my pic....couldn't find it. looked in my pockets, got off stage looked in my case...no where. some dude that played before me let me play w/ his.
so im in the midle of the song...it sucks because i just got over strep throat and im having to sing my own song an octive low. and what happens??? i drop the pick. so i keep playing. i get done and realize my pick...or his pick fell IN my damn guitar. so now im doing the turn the guitar upside down trying to get the pick to fall out. it finally does....right into my shirt. then im looking in my shirt for the damn pick
so we finish the set and i get off stage after we're done, my buddy stays up to play one last song solo...you'd have to hear the song, its awesome. the guys comes up to shake my hand, well i have my a pick, a guitar (not on my shoulder anymore) and my tuner all in my hand. i go to transfer hands so i can shake his hand and my tuner slams against my guitar. didnt' hurt anything but made a God awful noise.
talk about embarrasment. THAT ALL HAPPEND SOBER. from now on, im taking a shot or three before i go on stage. calms the nerves.

haha...that sucks app. I feel like such a fuckin amateur (not that I'm not an amateur...I just dont like feeling like one.) when I drop my pick. Especially into the soundhole. Anyway, thats exactly what I'm talking about. 3/4 drinks, and you dont care as much.

my brother went to a dave show in like 96 or something and it was in a basketball stadium. his seat was near the edge of the stage so he could see back stage. he saw dave walking on the rafters to these stairs where the stage is with a beer in his hand. he triped on the stairs on the way up and went out on stage and said they'd be a few minutes. im not sure how he performed after that, i should ask my brother.

he was the guy that ran the thing. i think the only reason he shook my hand is that we were the only ones that night that played originals. there were dave covers everywhere in that place.Granny33 wrote:haha nice story app, but who was the guy goin to shake your hand? if it was someone congratulating you, you couldn't have been that bad. oh and how wasted was the author of this subject when he wrote that line?

I have a recording of Dave playing Two Step, and it's some of the best DaveSpeak that I have ever heard after he plays it, and he says,
"I don't normally drink before the shows cuz it don't work."
Then he goes into this thing about a Festival in Switzerland and the band The Pogues and how they play "shit faced." It's great. If any of you want it, IM me (Tyleradidas00 on AOL). I will see what I can do.

I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.
