restringing question....
ive heard that it is a lot better for the neck if you only change one or two strings at a time, so thats what ive been doing. but i just bought some fret board oil to clean (and keep clean) my fret board. i was planning on doin this next time i changed my strings but that would be kinda hard if i only changed one string at a time. so my question is, what is the best way to clean my freat board: take all my strings off and clean it, or clean each section of it when i remove one or two strings? any info is greatly appreciated.
thanx,
derek

Taking off all the at once will not hurt your guitar. Just a myth. For some great info on cleaning the fingerboard check out http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musicia ... ing02.html

one thing it said on there that i didnt really understand was that you only need to apply cleaner once a year. i bought kyser lem-oil fret board conditioner and i was going to put some on every time i changed my strings (about once a month), according to that site that would be way too much. once a year just doesnt seem often enough, my fret board collects dust very easily and i have really sweaty hands, so what do yall think, would applying this stuff once a month be too much?

I would stear you in the direction of taking a damp cloth to wipe it down when needed rather than add lemon oil or anything else every month. Also, if you have a good guitar and want to maitain it that way always wash your hands with soap before playing. This is a simple thing that can be annoying to do but it really helps keep strings cleaner and fretboard.would applying this stuff once a month be too much?

i do wash my hands every time before i even pick up my guitar, but there is still a little build up on the fret board. and thanx again, i guess ill just put it on every 4 or 5 months, that shouldnt be too much.hd28v wrote:I would stear you in the direction of taking a damp cloth to wipe it down when needed rather than add lemon oil or anything else every month.
