Fuck me with technology

Unread post by Easy E » Mon Jan 23, 2006 2:37 pm

Alright so I'm having a some problems with my whole setup. First of all I just bought and set up a mixer so I can phantom power a microphone and my guitar with it's pickup. So everything gets all set up and I plug in my guitar, the first day it sounds real good, I just have to mess with my volumes a little. A little later i try to record and it sounds really faint, like recording over the phone. I plug in the mic to see what the deal is and it sounds fine. Today, i go to record and I get nothing from my guitar. Cool edit just gives me a line, and my tuner doesn't register anything.

I plug in my microphone and it still works, so i think there is something wrong with the pickup in my guitar. I plug that into my regular amp and it works(although for some reason there is a radio station playing through my amp when the overdrive is turned on, what the fuck is that?). So now I have no idea what to think, anybody have the slightest clue on how to fix this?

Does your pickup/preamp on your guitar require a battery?

ok everything is working now but im having a problem with Cool Edit. i can't record a seperate track without the first track bleeding into it. When I mute it it doesn't bleed in but i can;t record over it without knowing where i am on track one. How do i get it to not bleed over?

And no it has nothing to do with the playback volume.

What kind of input are you running in?

Are you sure it's a stereo input?

I think I misread your question.

You're trying to record one track, then go back and re-record a separate track?

If that's the case make sure you don't have the first recorded track armed to record.

No tracks armed to record:

Track One armed to record, do this the first time:

Track Two armed to record, do this the second time, make sure to unarm Track One:

what im saying is that it records whatever is playing on my comp through my speakers onto the second track.

For example. I record the verse to one sweet world, i turn off the record for that track. When i plug in my microphone to record vocals, the second track shows the dynamics of the first track, bascially doubling the guitar, this drowns out any kind of vocals i try to sing.

Use headphones to hear the guitar intstead of the speakers.
