Das hani mi o scho gfrogt, u ha im internet chli gsuecht, das hani gfunge:

"The meaning of this song, however, still remains fairly unclear. Most guesses are that the song is about superstition — "the black cat changing colors and you can walk under ladders" lines are the most suggestive of that.

Another, more recent suggestion about the origin of this song is that one of the first gigs the band played was on the roof of a pink warehouse in downtown Charlottesville in 1991.

Yet an additional possibility, suggested by Tim B is that Dave is talking about his own career and his own success. He suggests that Dave knows fame will eventually disappear and that the superstitious references are Dave talking about the fakes and frauds of the music industry. "

Well, the only part known is the Warehouse part. The part about the warehouse, and how he loves to stay there, is about the Pink Warehouse. Dave lived in that place for a while, and really loved it. So, that part of the song is about the Pink Warehouse. The rest of it, who knows, but it's good  .

He has admitted that the song is about nothing at all. It was written while he lived at the pink warehouse, but he said something about just making up words to fill space.

this is one of the most accurate descriptions of dave's entire song writing. most of it is just making stuff up and putting words together. almost everytime he tells about one of his songs he says it is not about anything at all.

i think this is true for all lyrically driven music, there is NO WAY every single word in an artist's song is supposed to mean something, space has to be filled just like you said grock

all my lyrics have a point. All my songs are full of meanings. I never just put a word there just to fill space, it has to be with the meaning of the song. Just thought I'd post that, for some reason.

yeah Dave's lyrics are all pretty "out there" and up for interpretation. he's said in the past that his lyrics were ambiguous and that he liked them that way, that he has a lot of problems with lyrics but he does his best. he's modest mother fucker and I believe him to be a great (my favorite) lyricist. but yeah what was the question? or was there one? I'm a little drunk so if ya can bare with me, I'd be great. ;)

The Pink Warehouse

Unread post by ceazerus » Fri Aug 18, 2006 2:47 am

Hi - I guess I'll add my 2 cents. Actually, I live in the Pink Warehouse. It's exact address is 100 West-South Street, on the corner of !st and South in Charlottesville ... in the 22902 area code. The pink Warehosue is a big thing here in Cville to DMB fans. The Landlady still remembers the gig ... and talks about it often. One of DMB's biggest fan lives on the 2nd floor now and from what she tells me, the prior posts are pretty much right. The ref in the song actually is a ref to the Pink Warehouse where Dave used to spend a lot of time because of friends / manager living in the building. I've lived there 3 years and have heard consistent stories. It's a kewl building with a fantastic vibe. Lots of art, curious apartment dwellers, insame parties, great conversations and LOTS of misplaced memories. I consider myself lucky, having got in the there.

Cheers!
