So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

PNP question

Unread post by rife33 » Thu Oct 09, 2003 1:00 am

In PNP, Live In Chicago, Dave sems to be playing something a little different that what is posted. If you watch the video, he is lifting his pinky and middle fingers during the intro of PNP. Your site is great, but do you see wee what I'm talking about JKanter?

I do! i don't know what that is. i think he just hits the top two string when he lifts his fingers like that, but i don't know and have been wondering that same thing.

Well I'm glad someone sees what I'm talking about. But I think the way Dave is playing it in this video is the way it is truly played. I've tried playing it the way the video shows it, but until JKanter posts it, I will not speculate! Dave is definitely playing something a little different though.

Ahhh yes! He is just lifting them to mute the string rather than to hit that specific note everytime he strums. I have a video of him in the studio recording PNP and he is doing the same thing. Just some muting going on there, no other notes involved.

Well, just because you're the "Duffman" I'll give you some credit.

He's playing the same chord I have posted there...just lifting his first and fourth finger to give it a little muted/notes-are-there-but-their-not kind of sound

i know this is really off topic, but duffman is the coolest. my favorite line is where he gets the duff sticker stuck on his face and he goes, Duffman, can't breathe...Oh no! great stuff.

ok sorry, back to PNP

actualy, it's very slight. You can see it on LS. You can also see it on the making of BTCS videos from MTV (you can hear it more than see it). I could be wrong, but I think this is what he plays sometimes for the first chord.
