My Grey Street rant

Unread post by calmpilot » Tue Jan 17, 2006 4:10 pm

I don't mean to pick on a song, because believe me I don't typically do that, but I have my issues with Grey Street. For one, I like the lyrics a lot; in fact this song has excellent lyrics. It’s the sound of the song I don't really like, and I've always thought that 12 string produced too much sound. My second issue is the jam. The reason I bring this up is a friend of mine was playing Grey Street from the Central Park cd, and I realized that whereas Dave's scream and lyrics are good up too the jam, the rest really doesn't work for me, the way Boyd and Leroi go back and forth, and the tempo of the song. Anyway, just a thought that has been nagging me for lack of a better topic.

you are most likely alone on this one. It's one of my favorite songs studio & Live.

great simple song.

I see your point but don't agree. And the 12 string sounds like heaven, he needsto write with it more.

I agree with you that in general i don't like the 12 string sound but when you have a busy song like Grey Street you need something that is going to puntch through all that other sound so the guitar does not get lost. To my ears you don't really get that annoying 12 string sounds in the recorded songs like Grey Street and Bartender. I don't know if you do any recording but i have been doing alot of full band recording for friends and ppl. and once you start adding instruments and stuff alot o the time the acoustic guitar gets lost in it all but when you use a 12 string it still makes itself heard. If it is totaly acoustic like D&T i like the 6 string alot better but with the band i still like the 12, especially on the recording, it gives it a fullness that you would lose with a 6 string.

PS czech, i like ur quote :)...

I love grey street both band and acoustic(with timmy). I once thought that i didn't like the song acoustic cause there wasn't much going on but then i learned how to play it and now i can't stop playing it. I have a d+t version someplace where they play it a lot slower and quietier, just beautiful.

I like it as long as they don't cut out lyrics.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
