So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

When I started playing that song, it took me quite long to figure out the strumming. but acutally it's pretty easy.
So I was just wondering how it is with you.

The only person I've heard play it perfectly on these boards is Jason. That guy has the rythm DOWN.

Yeah two step was the first song I learned, and the first song I learned the concept of " perfect rhythym ". Every dave song after that has been a cakewalk, minus a couple oddballs :)

When I learned it, I took on a different rythm. When I tried playing it with LS, it was horrible. It took me a little while watching LS and the '93 in store performance, and I got it. It's even different from his other rythms, so you have to get used to it, and once you do, it's easy.

no problems at all! It doesn't sound very good unless you use a hard pick though.

I've been trying for a while, and I still can't get it right. Something's wrong with me. I think I should give up.

i play Two Step with the side of the pick to prevent the tip from 'sticking' between the strings while strumming... enables me to keep the rhythm flowing well.

the side of the pick gives it that 'soft strum' sound, but smooth and fast.

my only problem is getting the Gstring to ring enough, cuz the side of the pick just doesn't 'grab' that string quite enough.

if i had some electronics, i gues i could just boost the volume on the Gstring.

regarding muting: i get the 'dave sound' by holding the pick in such a way that my thumb and index are muting while strumming. hard to explain... it's like playing with my fingers and a pick at the same time. my thumb/index simply hang over the edge of the (side) of the pick. works well for me.

so i don't use typical muting techniques (palm, fret, etc) to get the right muting sound in Two Step

i'd love to hear some samples of how y'all play it. but i only have dial-up, so large files won't help me much.

how about recording small (60 second) WAV files using the Sound Recorder that comes with all Windows versions. though the sound quality sux, it makes sending and receiving short recordings really easy

... just create a file for each part: intro, verse, etc.

anyone got a better idea for sharing recordings for those with the constraints of dialup?
