Not really into punk, except Green Day (been a fan since 5th grade), but I'll definitely take your word for the lyrical quality of that genre these days.

As for the lyrics at hand, I gotta agree with Matt Nathanson's recent post on his site:
we go back into the studio in los angeles in jan. to finish guitars
and, i hope, to sing.
but, without lyrics, i'm afraid i might be fucked.
good news is, the lyrics do always come.
bad news is, it could take years.
maybe i'll just call james blunt up and ask him how it is that
he writes such fucking transcendently amazing lines like:

"Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Fucking high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end"

um, y.u.c.k.
playschools 'my first song' contest winner?
and i know it seems catty of me to shit on someone who is
more successful than me and in the same general field
but really, you have to believe me, i was rooting for the guy.
i root for all my sensitive male singer songwriter brethren.
but fucking seriously, this song eats the cock.
and the fact that it is catching on, makes me sad.
i truly believe that every time a base, shit, underachieving song
like this one becomes successful, it just lowers the bar for all
and everybody lowers their collective expectations
so more terrible songs can slip through
and the cycle continues and, spirals further downward.
i guess it just pushes us even closer to a need for some
real, genuine greatness again.
i am keeping my fingers crossed."
Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread with this. It really has nothing to do with your recording.
-Brian

Be excellent to one another.

those high notes are a struggle, especially with this song. They weren't in key.

I'm not sure if I could do that either. I'll yet have to try that song.

I was thinking of posting that in the James Blunt thread in ndmb, I decided against it. I love Matt Nathanson though, great performer, really nice guy.

Sounds great. I want him to get back on tour, I really enjoy seeing him.

On that note, I really wish he'd tour with Fish again, those were some badass shows.

I saw Matt this summer and he played solo. It was good but Fish made it so much better.. I love the cello.

And Matt is a great guy. I talked to him for about 15 minutes after the show and he was very personable. Too bad nmy video camera crapped out on me. That would have been an amazing quality show.

I have never heard of Matt Henderson, but after reading that. I agree. smart man.

As to your recording Jason, Not much else to say that hasn't already been stated. You don't have a bad voice, just not in your range, the guitar was fine just a bad song selection.. Never watched that American Idol crap with the british idiot rambling on about song selection? Thats one thing I never understood... If it's American Idol then why is there a British guy as a panel judge guy? HE's BRITISH!! everyone hates the brits...

Just kidding.. for those of you from Britain..

Oh sorry for the wrong last name didn't realize i'd even made the mistake. Thanks for correcting it.

Oh, don't feel bad about your voice. You have a decent voice, while i'll admit it's not a show stopper voice. it gets the job done. My voice is so terrible that I've been told it's the same as hearing two cats fight..
