Yeah, I had elixers on a while ago and just went back to d'addarios. Im totally spoiled now, elixers sound about a million times better than any other string ive ever played with.

the more i change my strings the less i care whats on the guitar... doesnt seem to make much difference to me other than the reduced squeakyness of the elixirs, and then you sacrifice grip... just give me a big case of cheap strings and ill change them all the time

But yes, I love elixers :-d
i suspect you are speaking from memory because Elixir doesn't make "heavy guage" unless you mean "12 string heavy" which is actually the same as normal six string mediums. but from your post i don't think you meant this. so yeah no heavy's from elixir http://www.elixirstrings.com/documents/ ... e_list.pdf

heavy strings (14's) are quite uncommon.
i've never seen a heavy set with 14's, i thought 14's were customed

and do you know of any acoustic string sets that are sold with a normal 13 gauge but with a .60 low e string, i want some fatter bass :D
yeah buddy, just go to the guitar store and ask for single strings. elixir makes a .059 and d'addario seems to make every guage you could ever imagine.
i hate asking for single strings though, it always seems like a big hassle...

it should only cost about 4 bucks.

http://www.guitargal.com/strings.html check out the Newtone Blues Master Set.

here is someone else who would just buy an extra string http://www.taropatch.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1081

i'd say spend the 5 extra minutes waiting for the guys to dig around and find your big string. and instead of 4 bucks a pop, you may also try ordering online. since you could get like a 10 pack of single .060 strings for probably pretty cheap like 20 bucks.

alright, you guys know this was coming, so here it is.

I don't like exliers, too bright and they just have such a harse tone,

D'Addarios are just plain bad. I have used them twice, and both times, I go back to the store the next day and grab a new pair of . . .

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

A little off the subject, but have any of you guys used John Pearse phosphor bronze strings? I heard their pretty kick ass and cost a hell of a lot less than elixers

i've heard the same thing.

and if i've said it before, ranting we are just going to have to agree to disagree cuz i am just as passionate that dean markley are not very good.

this is a good time to say that strings react differently with different players. some people's chemistry wil be better with different types and brands of string so here in lies our difference.

i say try em and see. i've never had much success with plain strings and only limited success with EXP's so i stick around elixirs and sometimes jump ship to the EXPs when i want to change it up. oh and for anyone that is interested i went back to lights.

I guess Elixir's appeal more to me because they sound great, but they last soooo long... i guess the lifetime of string sound quality is the best measure, and Elixir's seem to have that over anything else i've used...i've used Markley's, D'Addario, and Martin's but i don't think they quite compare...just my opinion
