DMB - #41 full band (don't judge me)

Unread post by Jenns4Ever9501 » Tue Jan 10, 2006 11:17 pm

Before you all start throwin' comments at me, I'm incredibly aware of how overdone this song is, and I'm also incredibly aware of all the flaws in this particular recording, I only wanted to share with all my newfound fans some of my older skills, so you can truly appreciate how far I've come . With that said . . .

This was done about 3 years ago at an actual studio, in about 4 hours. My brother's playing drums, and I'm doing both guitars, bass, sax, and vocals. A guy who used to play with us at church was an engineer at this studio, and asked my brother and I to come down because they needed musicians to record for this recording class they do. No rehearsal time, no planning, and no production.

1. Playing with my old beater guitar, with spur of the moment crap guitar solo.
2. Playing with my beater bass.
3. Hadn't played my sax in about 3 years at the time.
4. Did vocals in one take, at 11:30pm, with no warmups, and I had a cold.
5. I was not in charge of mixing, the students were, so the mix is kinda shitty.

Alright, that's enough. Here it is . . .

The vocals could have been a bit louder....the drums were pretty good and the guitar really wasnt that bad

I mean the way this was recorded all spur of the moment and one take and stuff...its not that bad at all man...

#41 is my favorite song too so maybe im being a little biased.

Clap, clap, clap, encore. Don't be silly. This is really pretty good. I thought the sax was awsome, we dont get that kind of thing too much around here. I think you have a good voice but it wasn't leveled or mixed very well in this but still a great cover.....Just got to the bridge nice solo....we need more cow bell lol.....nice sax solo....If i needed would you add a sax track to one of my recordings? Mad props to your bro too.

This is great, especially for the time/cold etc. I like it! Especially the sax, as other people have said.

Yeah, I mean, it's such a ghetto recording, it's ridiculous. I've barely touched my sax since then, and like I said, this was 3 years ago, so I've improved 200% on everything since then. And I also wasn't in charge of the mixing, I had zero control, the students did, operative word being "student." But thanks for the props guys. I know it's ghetto, I just wanted to share so y'all could hear the difference between my skills now and 3 years ago.

Good work overall
The sax was really nice.

The vocals need some polishing. maybe it would already sound better if the volume was raised a little and maybe a little bit of reverb added.

Keep at it

Wow, I'm impressed man! I wish I could play the sax like that...& you said it'd been 3 yrs since you played before that?! I hope you're still playing it.

Good job!
