clapton and hendrix are what people who dont know about guitar take as the greatest.
they are both very good playes, both ahead of there times, and both cool, but there are countless guitarists who are better than them who sit unfairly in there shadows.

anyone else get very anoyed when people say "flea is the best bass player in the world."
or
"that durmmer from blink 182 is the best drummer in the world."

give me a breat and listen to making music with victor and carter.
people confuse popularity with musical greatness......... look at nsync for proof to the contary.
Gervais on Rosa Parks "she was arrested but then that law was changed- but she didnt stop there, she started sitting in the seats saved for disabled people. unbelavable, she talked to the driver when the bus was in motion- did she have the correct change ready? - did she bollox!"

I personally love his music, it's very mellow and, well, good. However, while his slide playing is definetly great, I don't necessarily know that he would be considered a 'god'.

It's SAD that he has to use a sub-par mainstream artist to promote his 4 notes. :)

I think Michelle is a mediocre artist....decent voice..... decent rythym guitarist.

Agreed about Branch. I got so tired of hearing Smooth as well. I don't know if he was looking to cash in a paycheck but it would have been a lot cooler if he would have selected some more respected artists to put out some better music(non-pop: not in terms of people liking their music but in terms of genre of music).

I think David Gilmour is overrated too.
i can honestly say i've never heard anyone say that before - he's awesome, really passionate solos
for real, i dont see how you can consider Gilmour overrated when most average rock listeners dont even know who he is

i cant fucking stand Jack White. Music critics basically stroke him off every time they talk about him, but i think he's average at best. Sure, maybe he can write some catchy tunes, but making a shitload of noise with an electric guitar isn't anything new
define "average rock listeners"... i'm pretty sure that no one who is an actual rock listener doesn't know who david gilmour is.
average rock listener?
the guy who yells "play freebird!" at a machine (pink floyd cover band) concert, and then babbles to me and passes out on my feet
its also the guy who thinks "we don't need no education" and "dark side of the moon" are great songs. WTF

as far as overated guitarists: shit... i cant remember any
but for real... the edge is pretty overrated, and whoever is from AC/DC and... any other hair metal band everr

I really hope you did some of that stuff on purpose, because through ur post u made yourself sound like an extremely average rock listener. The song isn't called "we don't need no eduaction," and I'm not sure why you don't think it's a great song, just cuz it's popular? half the guys u people are mentioning as overrated i don't really think are rated very highly to begin with. i mean, cmon, the edge? no one really thinks he's an incredible guitarist, so i dunno how he can be overrated unless you think he is the worst thing to touch a guitar ever. santana, i'll agree, not great, but even he isn't regarded as highly as other technically good guitarists such as malmsteen or roy buchanan in guitar circles.
