Written by the same man who wrote:

From the start
She knew she had it made
Easy up 'til then
For sure she'd make the grade
Adorers came in hordes
To lay down in her wake
She gave it all she had
But treasures slowly fade
Now she's falling hard
She feels the fall of dark
How did this fall apart
She drinks to fill it up
A smile of sweetest flowers
Wilted so and soured
Black tears stain the cheeks
That once were so admired
She thinks when she was small
There on her father's knee
How he had promised her
"You'll always be my baby"

:(
joe.

Mother, father please explain to me
How this world has come to be so
Twisted between time and dreams
Oh, mother, father please explain to me
Oh, what's all this talk about?
All this talk about it
Spinning down, down, down, down, down
All this talk about
Endless words without
Nothing's done

and of course...

Look
Here are we
On this starry night staring into space
And I must say
I feel as small as dust
Lying down here
What point could there be troubling
Head down wondering what will
become of me
Why concern we cannot see
But no reason to abandon it
Time is short but that's all right
Maybe I'll go in the middle of the night
Take your hands from your eyes, my love
Everything must end some time
Don't burn the day away

Going along with posting Dave's best lyrics, here are my favorite from the newer generation:

No, no, mamma now devil don't docey-doe
Two young boys lyin' dead by the side of the road
The coins on their eyes represent the money they owe
No judge or jury ever gonna hear their story told

Down by the bayou
Tryin to play with the cain-you
Tryin to play with the cain-you
Same old story again-you
Louisiana Bayou
Down by the bayou
Tryin to play with the cain-you
Tryin to play with the cain-you
Same old story again-you
Louisiana Bayou

Sweet girl daddy done beat that girl like he's insane
Brother can't watch him put that girl down again
'Till late one night cookin up with a couple of friends
Swear his daddy never gonna see another day

No, no, mamma GOD and Devil don't docey-doe
Two young boys lyin' dead by the side of the road
Shame, shame
IT'S A SHAME TO LOSE YOUR WAY RUNNNG WILD
SHAME, SHAME
It's a shame to lose your way as a child
IT'S A SHAME TO LOSE YOUR..

Money on the bed but you aint got to go
Sold your soul just tryin to get overload
No EMPTY pocket gonna keep ya from gettin yours
No judge or jury ever gonna hear their story told

No, no, mamma tried doin the docey-doe
Two young boys lyin' dead by the side of the road
Down by the bayou
Tryin to play with the cain-you
Tryin to play with the cain-you
Same old story again-you
Louisiana Bayou

It's a shame

Well one could argue that "Once upon a time/when the world was just a pancake" is hardly poetic genious, yet no one says anything about that.

Don't get me wrong, I love Dodo, and Some Devil in general, but I HATE that line. The first time I heard it I was like, "This album is going to be terrible." I'm glad I was wrong.

I was right about Stand Up, though. Shitty opening line, shitty album.

I'm mixing up a bunch of magic stuff
A magic mushroom cloud of care
A potion that will rock the boat will rock
Make a bomb of love and blow it up.

Bayou is a great song. The lyrics are good, not great. But at least they tell a story.
Everything else on that album (excluding Hello Again) seems like pointless meanderings.

yeah.. if LB had been on BTCS, I'd be talking about how pointless the lyrics are. but on SU, it shines. And plus, it's just a damn good song.

Yeah, I think Lillywhite would've left that one on the floor.
