still practicing this one --------

at the 4/5 part on the G chord in the verse, my question is...is that a quick back and forth slide with your index finger or does your index finger place on the 4th fret and your middle finger does a quick half tune on the 5th fret back to 4? does anyone get this question?? if so, any help would be appreciated or suggestions on how others approach this part of the verse...thanks

you got it man! you explain it better than i do :x

but yeah, that's it and it matches the exact movements dave does with a little bit of added bass... anyway, i was curious to get people's opinion on trying it out...it does sound really good when you get it down
Yup. It's a little lead-in back to the beginning of the verse. I play it too. I'm not sure if I slide all the way to 9 or not; maybe 7. Also, I use my middle finger so I'm set up to just drop the ring finger on 5 for the beginning of the verse. Anyway listen to L@LC. It is blatantly obvious.

it's weird though, you should try the sliding experiment i have on page one of this thread...after going to two recent concerts and studying Dave's motions very closely, so a quick recycle slide all the way down to 3 then directly to 5 (which is obviously the recycle of the verse) it you look in the mirror when you do this, you're sliding the same quick back/forth way dave looks at a concert with an inclusion of that extra base chord there...try it out a couple times let me know what you think...it's tricky at first, but i know you'll probably pick it up pretty quickly

Dunno. I don't do that little fill. I play this:

Code: Select all

E:--------------------------------------------
B:--------------------------------------------
G:----6--4/--0-----7---------9----------------
D:----2--2---0-----7---------9-----9----------
A:---------------3/5--------7------9----------
E:-5-------------------8~~~~-----5/7----0/7\3-
Doesn't really answer your question, but just wanted to post how I play it. But I'm guessing that you're aiming to do it the 'Dave way' so you can just ignore this post. ;)

actually no, this is quite reassuring...the 4/5 thing i'll get at some point just from continuous attempts...but it is good to hear that you also slide all the way down to fret 3 to lead in to the recycle of the verse...bits and pieces help...thanks man!

Actually, my tab above is not what I do. I only do the 3rd fret slide after these chords:

Code: Select all

E:---------------
B:---------------
G:-2---4---------
D:-x---x---------
A:-x---x---------
E:-2---3--0/7\3-
e.g.. the D --> G chords after "not yet lovers" and right before "dragons were smoked". I think it would be too busy to play it before each verse beginning at fret 5. Sorry for the confusion.

i agree, it is very busy to do that...but the transition is really very smooth once you repetitively practice it for awhile, and soon it just because routine...it gives a really cool feeling on the continuous slides that he does when he plays it....good stuff though, thanks for your input
