gravedigger chord

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

gravedigger chord

Unread post by kaizer » Wed Oct 01, 2003 2:00 pm

So I pretty much got gravedigger down, but I am having one lil problem with this damn chord. Maybe my fingers are too fat or something, but I would like to know what positioning to use for this chord. I've tried it, but I havent found the easiest way to play it yet.

It is the last chord in the Gravedigger jam.

E:-1
B:-3
G:-3
D:-3
A:-1
E:-

plz help. Thx.

ok. that's a simple A shape bar chord. Bar your index finger across the first fret. the use your middle ring and pinky to fret the D, G, and B strings (respectively) it takes so practice but you'll be able to move that shape anywhere on the fret board to make other chords.

I prefer to bar the 1's with my index finget and bar the 3's with my ring finger.

Yeah, so much easier, I dont even think Dave plays it with all his fingers (anyone know for sure?) Its pointless to try to do it the way with all your fingers, half the time the high e wont ring out anyway cuz its such a weird chord and even if it does the difference is so minimal no one will be able to tell.

does dave use his pinky to bar it. on the benyora video it looks like he does. ive tried that and i have decided it sucks. go for the ring finger to get the 3's. i dont think it needs to ring all the way through anyhow.

Me, too. You're talking about the last chord in the bridge. It's played so fast that you're better off just using the 2 fingers anyway.
Peace,

i use my pinky for that shape, it sucked at first, but it will be worth to work on cuz it makes your pinky a lot stronger.

many times i play

it gives the same idea. i don't remember the last time i played a chord the "correct" way with all of the strings. almost always there is some sort of muting going on.

no I don't believe so. Dave leaves the third out all the time. a lot of the times the 3rd is essential and the 5th is just gay but in Gravedigger, you can take it or leave it (the 3rd that is)

this may be true, but Dave is not the ultimate authority on this and there are a lot of shitty musicains who use these chords exclusively
