Rutabega Demo Album?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Rutabega Demo Album?

Unread post by czech » Wed Oct 01, 2003 3:28 pm

So I downloaded a file named "Rutabega Demo Album" a long while ago and listen to it everyday. Now i'm wondering, Where the fuck is this from?
It's Dave playing everyone of my favorite songs acoustic byhimself and I was just wondering, what's the story behind this?

songs include:
BOWA
Recently
Cry Freedom
Tripping Billies
STJL
IBYU
WWYD
Satelite
LLD
OSW
TS
DN

P.S. excuse my ignorrance, i'm sure this is an easy answer thread for most :)

are you serious? 92?
wow, it always trips me out that they have been good for so long. Usually when you listen to old stuff from bands it sounds sooo bad.

I guess it was from '91, actually. The 'Rutabega Studios Demo' is actually a combination of 2 demo sessions. Taken from the archives at http://www.antsmarching.org :

Date 1991-04-01
Venue Rutabaga Studios, Arlington, VA (1)
Setlist All The Same ~
Anytime We Can Stop
Cry Freedom ~
Tripping Billies
I’ll Back You Up

Guests
Sound Check
Notes Dave produced this demo for copyright purposes, All The Same was an early name for Lover Lay Down. The lyrics are exactly the same, only the working title is different. The ATS, Cry Freedom, IBYU, and Billies appear on the misnamed and misdated “Rutabaga Demo”, as well as the “Quad” demo

~ First known Lover Lay Down and Cry Freedom.

Date 1991-06-01
Venue Rutabaga Studios, Arlington, VA (2)
Setlist After Her ~
One Sweet World
Typical Situation ~
What Would You Say ~
The Best Of What’s Around
Recently
The Song That Jane Likes

Guests
Sound Check
Notes These all appear on the Rutabaga demo, and most cross over to the mislabeled Quad Demo. The (2) represents the fact that more than likely there were 2 separate Rutabaga sessions. Dave more than likely kept the songs (and thusly the per-hour rate) to a minimum. These were recorded, as the others, mainly for Copyright purposes. STJL and Typical are both on the DMB sampler Radio CD, and listed as 12.91 Quad. Whereas there was a demo recorded during that time, everything indicates that these two songs were taken from the Earlier demo, and that information is erroneous.

~ 1st After Her, Typical, and What Would You Say.

Stunt

I can do a b+p in SHN format. Send me an email if anyone wants it. Or check that antsmarching.org ftp servers. Some of them have it on them.
