I had a buddy who went tonight and called me after it was done saying the set was dissapointing. It looked pretty good from where I was sitting, but that was at my computer with an accoustic guitar in my lap.
seek up-pig-recently-grey st-pnp/rapunzel in the same set isn't bad at all. if they moved the placement of ODH and WAYG to somewhere else it would have been way more of a stellar show

the makeup sex was fantastic.

p.s: I'm sorry Briguy I really like arguing with people, it's nothing against you, it could have been anybody. Devil's advocate is really fun to play on message boards.
Don't worry about it man, it was a healthy discussion. I think arguments arise so much on these boards because everyone is a big DMB fan. So no matter what everyone has a good point.

mm. the setlists have been weird this tour. I was at Manch 12.12, and I liked the show well enough up till Bayou. Then the energy just like dropped off. They followed Bayou with Pig, which is a great song, but is no follow up to the energetic Bayou jam, IMO. My point is the way they've been structuring sets this tour has been kind of odd, and energy levels seem to move in waves rather than like a steady crescendo.

yeah they pulled a Dreamgirl right in the beginning of Manch. I suppose I was glad to hear that over WAYG or others, the outro jam to Dreamgirl is tolerable, even though the rest of it is unbearable. Still way to get everyone all psyched up, and then let down. They did pull through at Manch: Jimi Thing, Everyday > Ants(closer), is definitly on my list of Top Moments with DMB and Me. Of course it would be higher if Mike Doughty wasn't such a such a d-bag Dave wannabe. I saw him mimicking the leg thing Dave does, during his opening set. I was like "What the fuck is this guy doing?!" Gotta give props to whoever books DMB's openers, congrats for choosing a guy/band who is just like Dave/DMB.

p.s: I'm still just bitter that he came out and took Dave's scat solo during Jimi Thing, that's all.

Not positive, but hasn't Mike been in the music business longer than Dave?

Ouch on the ripping Mike Doughty for no reason whatsoever. (Actually, Dave has been a humongous fan of MD for many years, and the band has been covering Soul Coughing's songs for years - if you'd like to accuse someone of ripping another off, look the other direction.)

Yea I don't know where this hatred is coming from. Soul Coughing is really good music. I think Dave said it was his favorite group before. And they don't sound like DMB.

Mike Doughty has been in the industry longer than Dave, and he's been guesting with the band since 1995, iirc. The band has covered soul coughing songs for a long time. Mike Doughty is a very talented musician.

ummmm, If you look up just a little bit, you will see they they give reasons. Most notably, his lack of scatting skills.

Unless I'm missing someone other than Kevin's post, his only complaint was that M. Doughty's dance was similar to Dave's (although Mike's been doing it longer) and that the only reason he chose to say anything about him was that Doughty took Dave's scat in one song (I didn't see any reference to a lack of scatting skills).

(My post was only referring to Kevin's post.)

The general consensus on Mike D. so far is that his scatting has been absolute shit. Many people have been posting that....As far as the Dave dance, it can't be imitated, but can't knock Mike for trying.

I think people are misplacing their frustration. His scat did suck ass in MSG though. It was hardly a scat, just him repeating the same shit.
