EWU is a piece of polished shit live. I like the jam...but that song is crap. Hunger is decent...

Everyday as an album is amazing. I Did It on the album is the best version of that song ever. The Space Between is also amazing from the album. Then you have Dreams Of Our Fathers, So Right, If I Had It All, What You Are, Fool To Think, and Everyday. Angel, I have to admit, sounds damn good on Everyday. The only crap songs on the album are Sleep to Dream Her and Mother Father.I like the Stand Up songs a lot live, but is this thread not about the album? On the album, Stand Up, the only songs that I enjoy are American Baby, Louisiana Bayou, Stolen Away, and YMDT. I don't like all the mixing on the other songs. Yea I listen to and enjoy the album a good deal, but I still find more enjoyment when I listen to Everyday. Maybe that's just me...

Ya i know what your saying. but the point of this thread is for everyone to realize how good the Stand Up Sessions really were. How DMB can make shitty hip hop songs turn into good live songs. I made this thread to show that Stand Up is not a Terrible cd that most people portray it as. its just a differant sound and i kinda like it. I dont necessarily like the way batson is morphing this band in some ways but i will admit that i do like everything on SU besides ODH. ODH sucks on the album and live

Seriously. I really can't stand either. I hate Everyday because it marked the changing of this band from one that cared and worked hard to make good music to a band that will whip something together real fast in order to make a quick buck. I know there are some of you defending it by saying that compared to other stuff out there its not that bad. Well I compare this band to their previous work, not what they sound like in relation to other bands. And going by that, Everyday is a gigantic failure. How in the hell can you go from coming up with such great moving, songs like Bartender, Grace is Gone and Captain to something like Angel. A song that actually contains the lines "I call you up...you pick up" and "Why do I beg like a child for your candy?" That just perplexes me. And as for Stand Up, well that is equally as bad but in a different way. Where Everyday was a very bad structured album. Stand Up is a very bad loose album. I guess I just don't like the "play whatever comes to your mind and we will make a song out of it" process. The band is better than this and I can't stand when fans get complacent and begin to lie to themselves that these albums aren't that bad when we all know they are capable of so much more.

I completely agree that everyday was mostly a giant turd of an album. I partly agree that SU was not all that it could be, but I do think it's a good album and I really do disagree that they threw it together to make a quick buck.

The best work of the band's career as a true jam band is behind them. I feel that as a band they have moved into exploring more ideas and the band as a whole adds direction to the work produced. Something that, IMHO, has mostly been bad for the band. I think they're best work is lyrics by dave, a nice guitar part and then the band jamming around that.

I think the next album will be similar to SU with a (hopeful) release of some of the summer 2004 songs. Or maybe they'll drop some nutty old school sounding jam session on us for the next album.

it seems like the only staying power this album has, is the fact that people are still standing up (no pun intended) for it.

This new album is perfect for the WB network generation that watches Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek reruns.

Are we still talking about an album that was released some 7 months ago? Everybody gets the point, the album does not capture what we'd expect from DMB.
And we also know it's nowhere near their best work. Refer to one of the 20 other threads discussing this topic.

i agree....it says we can talk about anything DMB in this forum. the only complaint you could have legitimately is that this is creating a new thread when a new thread is not needed. yeah its been said before, but we can still talk about it cant we?

Without reading all the posts I can say I agree. It took a little while to grow on me. I feel it would have been one of the better albums if more summer '04 songs were included and maybe a bit more time was spent on it. I'm not talkin better than the classics, but better than Everyday and Busted Stuff (which I really like).

BINGO

Plus, how many times can you stomach people saying, BTCS was the best or it's very similar to Everyday. It's OLD news that has been discussed thoroughly to it's death.
