In all honesty, Stand Up is really not that bad...

Unread post by Dheibs » Tue Dec 06, 2005 9:58 pm

Think about it, 14 songs some are good, some bad...

Dreamgirl - Yeah, it definately blows live because its so long. But i dont mind it on the album because its so crisp. and yes, the lyrics are cheesy. but give them a break.

Old Dirt Hill - This is one of the TERRIBLE songs on from the sessions. I will admit, it shouldnt be on there. It sucks on the album and live.

Stand Up - I love this song. good lyrical message, it gets the point across. It has an awesome bassline and beat. Its stellar on the album and live. Plus, it made CBS football.

American Baby Intro - I dont like it much on the album, but live, thats a whole differant story. Although he just screams. It gives chills to the average concert goer. It will be a classic eventually.

American Baby - Good Album Song, Decent Video considering dmbs other videos. Its good live and the insturments flow well with this one.

Smoothrider - Im not a fan of this on the album because its to "hip hoppy". But live it is great, especially with Mr. Ross.

Everybody Wake Up - AWESOME song on the album. Good lyrics. Live its decent but the one thing he HAS to do is take out his Jerry Jones and add some distortion to it. Then it would kick absolute ass live!

Out of My Hands - Its a definate crowd killer when played live, but its differant on the album. I like how its so simple, yet good enough to listen to. The percussion on it adds good flow to the song.

Hello Again - Awesome both live and on the album. They just need to play it more live. Carters Drum solo is always good and the beat gets the crowd goin. Though im not a fan of the segue into Bayou on the album, i do love this song.

Louisiana Bayou - What can i say? Good on album, Better live. Watch the Red Rocks dvd and that will show how great of a song this really is. add Robert Randolph in their and the show takes off! AWESOME song!

Stolen Away - I do like the beat of this song, and i really like Roi's parts on it. But it shouldnt be played live. For god's sake, Dave has to sit in a chair! Will listen to it on the album, but grab a beer during it at a show.

You Might Die Trying - Good Song Both album and live. The Jam is fantastic and it flows realy well. The one thing i dont like is the "Britney Spears-Like" drum beats during the breakdown. Still is a great song though.

Steady As We Go - Even though im a guy, i love this song. Live it is Awesome IMO. i know alot will disagree, but after i watched DMB storytellers, i loved it forever. Good wailing at the end.

Hunger for the Great Light - Cheesy, but good. I dont like it on the album. But it evolved into a "Played every show song", which is not bad. It's short, and brings a package of energy to the fans, especially the casual ones.

Though these were left from the album, They were part of the SU sessions so therefore are included:

Trouble With You - I LOVE THIS SONG. but it shouldnt be played live. I love the guitar riffs, lyrics, and drums in this. its just a good ol "chill" song.

Joyride - Not a fan of it when studio recorded. But man, Live its insane. I hope they bring this beat back someday instead of ODH

Hello Again (Uncut) - 7 words, This SHOULD have been on the album...

In Review, Stand Up is decent actually. I skip ODH no matter what. I skip Dreamgirl, Out of My Hands, and Stolen Away when played live. 10 out of 14 songs i like or will withstand at a show. I think thats decent. Thats better than what Everyday was at least. Discuss

nice anaylsis there, but i think dreamgirl has really improved live (especially when preluded by minarets  ).

When I think of Stand Up, I think of what Dave says on the DVD, and he could not have been more accurate.

Something along the lines of:

"I think when our fans hear this, they might not like it. But give it time, it will grow on them."

This album really has grown on me

Do post this in the appropriate thread, though.

Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

I agree very much so. dreamgirl has grown on me alot, but they just gotta shorten the intro/outro when played live.

i still contend that the drums are too synthetic...i mean...i still contend that batson did everything possible to fuck this album up...but dmb proved that they are better than that...they made it good even with him as the producer

Compare all of their albums. Each has a "Flagship" song, a fan favorite song. EVERY Album does, and Stand Up does as well. look at Everyday, we all thought that was a complete failure as well. but it wasnt, we got Fool to think, WYA, So Right, Everyday. Just because it was a differant sound doesnt mean it sucked. and look at Stand Up now...Bayou, AB Intro, Stand Up, Hello Again. my point is Every Album has songs that stand out from the rest. Stand Up is by no means a Shitty album

THANK YOUUUUU...that hit it right on the head. no matter WHAT batson makes the album sound like. DMB will turn it around some way or another when they play them live

(and yes the drums on YMDT studio make me think of spears instead of dmb unfortunately  )

Are you kidding me? ok so we know DMB is typically a "Live" band in most fans eyes. Tell me what songs from Everyday Translated into Good Live songs?

Mother Father = No, of course not, this song absolutely sucks monkey nuts
Sleep to dream her = Hell NO
I Did it = No
If i had it all = No
Angel = FUCK NO, especially when the ladies sing
Space Between = HELLLLL NO
WTWE = Ya its decent, but no IMO

The only good songs that came from Everyday are Everyday, WYA, So Right(Which they dont even play anymore), and Fool to Think. Look at Stand Up and compare this to it

So Right
When The World Ends
If I Had It All
What You Are
Fool To Think
Everyday

all truly amazing

the only songs from Stand Up that I enjoy live are:

Stand Up
American Baby Intro
American Baby
Hello Again
Lousiana Bayou

If I had a choice to listen to either studio album completely through...I'd pick Everyday for sure.
