what is?

soundblaster? costs like $30 tops last time i looked, and is the standard sound card on most computers

pickup? eh, $90, not too bad, but the poster said he had an acoustic-electric already, so...

yeah, but the standard sound card on most computers blows ass for that kind of stuff

I guess the point of my post was, having a cheap sound card does not automatically = shitty recordings.

i suppose you're probably right, i've never had to deal with it, but some recordings on these boards have some pretty bad quality from plugging straight into the comp

Before you go spend a bunch of money, try this: First make sure your computer has a mic input.....it should be on the back of the tower. Go to Radio Shack and buy a converter that will allow a guitar cable to plug in a mini jack (1/4 inch to 1/8 inch converter I think). Instead of playing through your amp into a mic, go directly into your computer. That should cost you no more than $5.

The above may not work if you have a crappy computer. If you bought it new within the past few years, it should be ok.

Agreed. I have have a similar setup as TrippnBill686. I plug my B-Band directly into the sound card on my laptop and it sounds decent. The laptop is just a two year old Dell Latitude with a stock soundcard (Crystal is the manufacturer, I think). For vocals I use a $30 Radio Shack vocal mic plugged directly into the sound card. Nothing fancy...

Yup. A 1/4" to 1/8" mono to mono converter.

I do have a plug that allows me to plug my patch cord coming from my amp right into the back of my comp, but it still sounds like crap.

Yup. i.e. plug the guitar directly into the PC. You can add effects/EQ/reverb in a sound editing application.
