Stay is a biaaatch
I think playing Stay is much harder than Warehouse. I have been re-learning STAY after watching 10.24.02 and I find it to be difficult to play like Dave.
I can play it accurately for 2 minutes or so then my hand just cramps. Anybody else have this problem or share the same sentiment regarding this song?

it's not hard, but since it's all downstrokes, when i reach the 2nd chorus (more or less) i feel like my strumming hand is getting "nervous" (i hope this makes sense) and not relaxed. if i play it 2 times i cant always reach that partjellyfish wrote:What part is hard for you?Sciaracastro wrote:yea, it's easy, but i actually cant play it 2 times that my hand crampsjellyfish wrote:Sciaracastro wrote:about strumming??jellyfish wrote:Not talking about stretches. Above is a clip of Dave playing Stay. It seems like he puts more chopping, muting in the solo version versus the band version. Which makes it much harder to play for me when it comes to my stumming hand. Maybe Im playing it too hard?

To me, all up or all down strokes are easier than conventional strumming. I have been playing for over 10 years and feel like I still dont know how to stum correctly.Sciaracastro wrote:it's not hard, but since it's all downstrokes, when i reach the 2nd chorus (more or less) i feel like my strumming hand is getting "nervous" (i hope this makes sense) and not relaxed. if i play it 2 times i cant always reach that partjellyfish wrote:What part is hard for you?Sciaracastro wrote:yea, it's easy, but i actually cant play it 2 times that my hand crampsjellyfish wrote:Sciaracastro wrote:about strumming??jellyfish wrote:Not talking about stretches. dont make me quote all that plz
i watched the clip (damn i really want the Benaroya DVD) and it doesnt look like Dave is strumming hard. yeah there's much muting and stuff, but it's all about the fretting hand, like all Dave's songs (and u should know that
)
about FTT, well actually alternate picking (or alternate strumming) is less stressing than all upstrokes (or downstrokes) b/c w/ a full hand movement u pick 2 notes (DOWN = 1 note, UP = another note)...w/ onyl downstrks u have to double the hand movements up.
i usually have no problems w/ downstrokes at all, but FTT has a freaking fast time

NO, it's not all his fret hand. His strumming hand is moving constantly throughout the verse, and he chops down hard 3 times . I believe this chopping/muting is what is killing me.Sciaracastro wrote:dont make me quote all that plz

question: do u play unplugged?
How about this? Since my fingers are lightly/semi-lightly touching the strings with his fret hand, it doesn't allow my pick to follow through with the strum. Which puts a strain on my wrist in this particular song.Sciaracastro wrote:he doesnt mute w/ the strumming hand while he's choppingjellyfish wrote:NO, it's not all his fret hand. I don't find the fret muting to be difficult at all. It's actually one of the easier things I find when playing Dave songs.
