Highlighting

Unread post by jellyfish » Tue Nov 22, 2005 1:20 pm

I would like to see a simple preview function when scrolling over the thread title.

For example, if you put your mouse pointer on the name of the thread, the first sentence or so will come up in a preview box to let you know what the thread is about. Is something like this possible?

Very much so...lemme look into it real quick. Do you want it to be of the latest post or the first post?

If you wanna code it make sure you use Ajax and pull dynamically otherwise it'll increase the size of each page fetch significantly

Yeah...that's what I was thinking would be an issue. Thing is, I'm pretty sure that I saw a mod for that on phpbb.com at some point. Just can't find it...any suggestions without having to code our own? Maybe you can find it? :)

I think a highlight of the first post would be more benficial since the purpose of this is to see what the thread is acutally about. However, I realize threads here do mutate fairly quickly though & have a habit of going off topic, so Im not sure if it would work?

i agree, it would be a good idea, it might cut down on flaming and traolling too. I mean, if you just put your cursor over it and see, "Oh, this thread is about hating people for wearing hedphones, i dont see a need to click on this thread."

problem solved.

Exactly. I use this function on other boards quite a bit.

sounds like a good idea, but i think it would be pretty annoying having all these things flash up when you're browsing a forum.

maybe a timer function? where you could have the mouse sit on a topic for 3-4 sec.... and then the preview will pop up.

i like that a lot. i was also thinking the automatic pop-up thing could get really annoying.

I think it's set like that anyway. It takes a few seconds before the preview come up.
