You got Some Devil before any actual DMB CDs? Hmm, how did you stumble onto Some Devil without knowing about DMB? Also, how did you stumble onto this site without knowing of DMB. I am very confused right now. Nothing wrong with discoering Some Devil before dmb, and nothing against you at all, but it's just odd to me. Also, since you don't know DMB, you won't know these abbreviations for DMB's studio and live albums. DMB is known for their live performances. Once you start knowing DMB and getting into them, you'll know why they are good live.
BTCS = before these crowded streets
L@LC = live at luther college (dave matthews & tim reynolds- a good friend of dave matthews that I consider the greatest guitar player ever, you just listen to him and you will know what I mean. He isn't a part of DMB, but is a good friend and will play with DMB live and in the studio from time to time).
LS = listener supported
LIC = live in chicago
RR = live at red rocks
UTTAD = under the table and dreaming
RTT or R2T = remember two things
L@FF = live at folsom feild
Recently = an EP (5 tracks, 4 live, 1 remix of recently that was on the R2T)
BS = busted stuff
ED = everyday
Good luck discovering DMB.

I don't know why everybody likes Red Rocks so much. The sound quality isn't as great as L@LC or LS and I think the instrumental sound is a tad raw. Proudest Monkey is a perfect example. It sounds totally empty. I like some versions of songs on it, like recently and LIOG, but I like recent live releases that have a combination of new and old music on them, like LS and L@C.

Because of the sheer energy of the band.Davy28 wrote:I don't know why everybody likes Red Rocks so much. [snip]

don't know what that means, but oh welland I think the instrumental sound is a tad raw.
L@RR is the only version of PM i like.Proudest Monkey is a perfect example. It sounds totally empty.
agreedI like some versions of songs on it, like recently and LIOG,
agreed, but I feel that the newer ones (well, folsom) have too much new stuff and not enough old stuff. and l@lc was only a year after red rocks, just to point that out. i prefer l@lc just because it's awesome, but the energy on rr is great.but I like recent live releases that have a combination of new and old music on them, like LS and L@C.

I should have rephrased myself. I don't see why some people think that L@RR is the best live album anywhere ever. I think the versions of the songs on it, particularly from UTTAD are good, but not masterpieces.

Red Rocks may not compare to the audio quality but what you're hearing is pure. No gimicks. Not that any of the other live albums use gimicks, but RR always seemed far more pure. The version of Two Step on RR always gives me goose bumps, and I absolutly adore the drum solo before #26, and it gives you a great look at what DMB was like and what they sounded like back then. That's why it's my favorite LIVE album.Davy28 wrote:I should have rephrased myself. I don't see why some people think that L@RR is the best live album anywhere ever. I think for me BTCS and UTTAD tie for favorite studio album. They are very differnet, but both very good in their own respects.
