Rhyme and Reason

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Rhyme and Reason

Unread post by Corona5k1635 » Fri Oct 25, 2002 11:51 am

Hey Jkanter this is an observation I made watchning LS DVD:

On rhyme and reason dave frets the second note of the riff (the 5 fret on A string) with his second finger , not his third. It seems to flow better this way and I think he does it because after you slide with the third finger on the next two sections of the riff, you pick it up and fret with second finger. So if you do it for all three of the first three sections(if you know what i mean by section ) it follows the same pattern and it was easier for me to learn that way instead of the awkward picking up of the third finger and then immediately fretting with it again. Thank you for putting up more videos! they rule man

peace

Just popped in the DVD and checked it out.......Your right, he does hit that note w/ his 2nd finger. I had always had it the other way becuase it seemed by keeping your 2nd finger on the low E, everythign was in the right position. Thanks a lot for that and the change has been made....peace

I play it like this, I think it flows even better if you use your 4th finger at the beginning. It is alot easier :D

Code: Select all

Verse
E:--------------------------------------------------
B:--------------------------------------------------
G:---------3------------------------x-----9---------
D:-3/5----------------5----------7--x-----------10--
A:------5-----5\6--------6\8--------x---------------
E:-----------------6----------8-----x--8-----6------
   (4) 3 1 (3) 2 1 (3) 2 1 2 4 1 4

i start with my third(ring) finger and hit the 5 on the A with my 2nd and then down with my pointer to 3 on G. i like to have my 2nd finger sliding up the E so that when i get to the big stretch i have my whole hand available, but think that's the way dave and most other people play it.
