strum pick strum

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

strum pick strum

Unread post by chris murphy » Wed Nov 09, 2005 7:58 pm

i was just wondering how many people here started playing songs like osw , recenty, stone etc picking them, then later learned to use that crazy dave strumpicking, if you know what i mean . i still pick, but watching dave play, his method looks (and ofcourse sounds) so much better

watching him do it is rediculous. i have absolutley no idea how he can pick something like that stone that is so fast... while strumming? it boggles the mind.

ive always done it like that. it seems to lack flavor and swing if you pick it. plus, i cant pick...this is coming from a guy who primarily plays bass....but i can play a handful or two of dave songs (including the verse parts of recently and osw)...its much better strumming. i guess it pays to have no prior experience before leaning dave

everyone starts out picking it, the strum picking will come natural after time you'll get it!

agreed

for me, i started hitting single strings while strumming without even knowing i was doing it at first, just from practice and repeatadly playing those songs over and over.

good luck!

Good advice from a solid guitar player right there.

I used to obsess over this kinda thing, playing exactly like that. But just do what works for now and as you progress, you're hand will start moving around a little more then a little more and soon it'll be strumming. A good song to try and learn this technique is ants, you're only moving around 2 strings instead of 3-4 like recently or osw and it feels much more comfortable once you can strum.
