Stupid question, what gage pick you use?

Unread post by czech » Mon Sep 22, 2003 1:40 pm

I'm bored and curious and was about to order a bag of 72 off the internet.
I use the green Dunlop Tortex .88mm. I don't like playing with any other pick now. I'm such a little girl.
Oh ya, and if anyone knows what Dave uses, i'd be more than curious to know.

I use the orange tortex ones, though I have no idea how thick they are.

pretty much only like dunlop tortex picks because i never break them and they have a little flex to them... i used to like the reds until i got better and moved up to oranges- thats what i almost always use now unless i want to solo, i might move up to yellows but i only have like 2 of those so i can never find them lol

also, i use the tip of a knife to poke tons of little holes in the top parts of the pick for better grip, what if anythign do you guys do to help grip?

not a bad idea. I get nervous as hell when playing at a gig and tend to let picks slip like crazy. After being about 2 or 3 minutes into a song my pick will have spun fully sideways. I was thinkin about getting a really heavy grit sand paper and giving my picks a few good deep scratches.

ive tried sanding them, cutting criss-crossing lines with a razor, and the best is still to throw it on a cutting board and stab the hell out of where you hold it with a knife... not too hard, just enough to make a ton of tiny little dents on each side- if the knife is sharp it works great

oh shit, you know what would work great...
...cut off a little grip tape that would normally go onto a skateboard, but just put it on the thumbside of the pick.
hmmmm

To answer your first question, I use the orange Dunlop Tortex's (which are .60's), and these are what Dave uses as well.

i use dunlop tortex. i vary my size from .6 to 1.14mm. i use a hole punch to do the same thing on my picks as those star ones. i also use the dunlop nylon ones. those are really good for strumming. and aren't as hard as the tortex so you can get thicker picks with the same feel. also they have a grip built right in. it's all an experiment.

same here except with nylons, but it sucks cuz i'm at school now and left my hole punch at home and happened to lose all my picks that i punched holes in
