Stefan's Bass Setup and Effects

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Stefan's Bass Setup and Effects

Unread post by dpresti » Thu Oct 27, 2005 10:14 am

Okay so, I recently just got a effects pedal for my bass and i'm trying to mimic some of the tones and effects that stefan uses. especally on the various watchtower intro's.

does anyone know what kind of distortion he uses or what other effects? what about his dials on his amp, what are his lows mids and highs at?

does anyone know?

lots of overdrive and gain for the watchtower solos, sometimes with a chorus effect.

the clean tone of his is the bass- he runs the bass direct into the board. The amps he has on stage are just for stage presence and are not what you hear in the mix.

It's similar, but very choked and just not the same. I had one and it worked well for awhile but I gave up and just ran the bass straight into the amp. His tone is in his fingers- very dynamic player

okay thanks for the help man.. what kind of advice do you have for someone like me? i've been playing bass for about a year now, and i'm in a band we play out live and stuff. to my standards, and my bandmates i was "meant" to be a bass player and i believe i'm a good player. i absolutly love the instrument and want to become very good.

i grew up playing the piano then picked up the guitar and now i play bass.. but i'm going to be playing bass for the rest of my life, its my instrument...

i am running an erinie ball 5 string bass - through a fender bass amp rumble 60...

and just last night an old famiily member gave me a Zoom 1010 pedal... i hooked it up last night and i loved the different effects i can do for my bass on it..

what to you suggest i do? keep this pedal? get the digitech squeeze? remember i'm a poor college student..

those are shitty strings any way you slice it, haha. flatwounds are good if you want a thumping, clunky sound, somewhat similar to an upright bass, but not as thin sounding. strings are strings...you just have to shop around until you find what you like.

hey guys, lets open this thread back up..

i thought this would be a good place to post this question.. i have an ernie ball 5 string and i'm running it through a 'fender rumble 60' bass amp.

I wanted to know what should i be setting my equalizer at? I want to get the best tone with a good amount of punch.

then i also have a Zoom 1010 pedal, should i add in some tone changes? chorus? reverb? what can i add in to give a good soft unique tone...almost stefan like.. but not really cause i dont have his setup..

thanks for the help gang
