What If The Next Album Disappoints You as Much as SU?

Unread post by Nitro1515 » Thu Oct 27, 2005 6:50 am

Will that be it for you as a hardcore fan of the band? For me I think it will be. I mean I will always listen to the older stuff, and maybe catch a summer concert, but I think that will be it for me staying up to date on everything they are doing like I have the past 10+ years. Its just that if this CD is bad than that will be 4 bad albums in a row and there is no excuse for that or ways that I can lie to myself about it. I think I'll finally accept the fact that this band is not what it use to be.

You and I think alike when it comes to the band. I also have been a fan for 10+ years & have seen them plenty of times over that time span. Im not dissapointed by the lack of enthusiam I have for the band as I once did. I find I can put more energy into other bands that I have neglected over the past couple years & start playing guitar music other than Daves'

if it disappoints, oh well.

hehe. I really won't lose sleep over it. Would I like a great album? Of course. But nothing can ever change how dave strums a guitar or writes his lyrics or how the band clicks together so easily.

So on that note, let whatever comes come, but I'll still enjoy listening to them.

am i the only person here who thinks that SU is pretty good? sure it's not UTTAD or BTCS, but I think it's good and a number of the songs transferred *very* well into solid live songs and nice jams. SU is by no means my favorite DMB album but I like it.

I think you can still be a hard core fan of the band if you don't like a couple of the albums. I think there is a difference between following someone blindly and being a fan.

I personally don't like Stand Up either. I thought some of the songs they came out with in '04 were going to make an awesome album but then they go a different direction. I thought Hello Again, Sugar Will, Joy Ride had a lot of potential with what they were coming out with.

I can't blame them for trying something new and different. They did it with BTCS and they hit a homerun. That is the thing, you can swing for the fences and if you miss you will look bad. But every now and then a gem like BTCS will come along. I would rather see them try and miss than keep on doing the exact same thing, even if it means I don't like the work.

It's tough to put a lot of weight into this release because we don't know what is yet to come. When the end arrives then we'll be able to accurately mark the peak, the mediocre and the fall.

I've lost interest really. Of course I was younger, but I used to got to several shows a year. Now, I'm more concerned with lesser known but equally as good bands.

By the grace of the almighty we all age and change as the days go by. Dave is going to be 40 soon, that's crazy!

I can only hope that the band will continue to make new music, will it be as bad as SU or better, it's impossible to say.

As a relatively new fan (since 2002) I've been kicking myself for not listenin' to 'em earlier. No matter what they put out, I can always say that Dave's the reason I picked up a guitar. For that, I'll always be a pretty bid fan.

Of course, I want 'em to go out with a bang. One last Lillywhite record or even a record with all the ideas they never put on a studio record.

I grudgingly agree, as long as Lillywhite doesn't turn Dave's guitar all the way down.
