Buy or Not?

Unread post by dmbaddict001 » Tue Oct 18, 2005 8:37 pm

My friend offered to sell me his Martin DCX-1E and hardshell case for $600. Even though hes had it for over a year, the guitar is in mint condition. I play the thing more often then he does and i really like the guitar, but i dont know if i should hold out and maybe get a D-15 limited with Rosewood so that i would have an all wood. ANy advice?

600 is too much when a new one with lifetime warranty is 650

500 or maybe 550 if it was a sweet player might be a deal.......

I would never spend more than $250.00 for a guitar if it didnt have all wood, and that guitar would just be a beater. Its just not worth it, especially when you can get a really nice all wood guitar for probably cheaper or the same price as that low end martin, which I wouldnt buy either.

By all wood he means, the back and sides are solid wood (and the top too, but that is pretty much a given). Any Martin with an "X" in the title is not solid wood, it is a laminate. Also, I believe anything under a 300 series Taylor is laminate (100,200, and Babies).

and the website will usually list a guitar's back/side wood as "Solid Rosewood" or whatever it is if it's solid, otherwise it will just say "rosewood"

not true....plain and simple

I have a 000x1 that gets played more than my '89 m-36 and just about as much as my 000-28EC. It is the best player, and sounds great, but just obviously not quite as good as the other two.

The thing is if you like that 'martin' tone, because even the x series has it. If you love the martin tone then it is an affordable way to get it.

The dcx1e is not a bad guitar at all. It has martin tone and good plyability. It Is cheaply made though i will admit. but used, it is not worth 600 at all. I woulndt spend more than 400-450 for that thing used. And if hes your friend he should cut you at least that much slack if not more than that. I believe they go for 650 new. So you do the math. There are more good guitars out there for the money, but it DOES have martin tone even if it has laminate sides and back.

i listened to Saleen's DX15 or somethign like that. I was very impressed, i dont thin kanyone who bashes them has ever heard one. I didnt think it plays like a true martin, but if tyou are a good guitarist and can adapt to different guitars, it sounds great.
