Hrmm.. after watching SDL...

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Hrmm.. after watching SDL...

Unread post by DMBFan63 » Sun Sep 21, 2003 3:33 am

After watching the so damn lucky video a few times(this is probably the wrong forum) and just listening to the lyrics, the some devil sounds like its gonna be an album all about dave's lyrics, not his guitar playing skills.. because the songs are simple, but the lyrics sound really really meaningful.. anyone agree..?

Some Devil, the song is absolutely jaw-dropping amazing. It nearly brought me to tears. I have listened to the whole album like 20 times through. Amazing

Dave seems to be going back to his religious lyric type stage.

*chuckles* i love some devil a lot, even if it's a bit repetitive. just a stripped down, raw track. reminds me a lot of buckley, so that may be why i like it so much. stay or leave turned out great. i'm holding off on listening to other tracks, though. it's great to hear new stuff again. this album's shaping up, even if it may have a few hit or misses as Elliot says, i still am looking forward to it.

Yeah the first time I heard Some Devil I immediately thought of Buckley's Hallelujah. The chorus is just unreal

I love this album...it's quiet (mostly), it's highly introspective, and it's feels very very raw like the unreleased Lillywhites. The mixing is clearly more polished than the Lillywhites but the raw emotions is there.

The title track Some Devil is just sweet. I can't remember a better time we've heard Dave stripped down with the baritone no less.

I wouldn't complain about the guitar technique so much on this album. Yes, some of the songs are a lot simpler and use a lot of muting/trapping but the result is fantastic. The gospel-sounding Save Me is a beautiful religious illusion which caused me to fall in love with this album immediately. The skill is still in there though! Stay or Leave is another brilliant work of fingering and time changes.

Has anyone else listened to Stay or Leave off the album? I'm not sure but I could swear I hear a little banjo compliments of Bela Fleck in addition to the guitars of Dave and Tim. I think Tim's playing a 12-string on that track...

Good stuff!!!

edit: along with some other guests.

I don't think that stay or leave is a brilliant work of fingering and time changes.. indeed it is an amazing song, but he has had songs that were truely brilliant..
