Unread post by proudestmonkey41 » Sun Oct 16, 2005 5:14 pm

so i was playin guitar at a party the other night.. and had a few girls request a nice love song. fortunatley for me i was able to get out of it based on the fact that i was sloshed. but im thinkin learnin a good version of Say goodbye could really help score some points with the ladies haha.

to get to the point.. Pats video is an awesome help. but its taking me some time to figure out. any tips you guys have for making it easier to play would be greatly appreciated

it takes time for everyone to figure out...so thats normal #1 thing your fingers are the first thing to figure out know what figures go where, and how they change chords. its easier then you think it is. you'll get it. also know the song very good

say goodbuy is much more about the pressure and mutting on the fretts than the strumming, the chords are straitforward,
but the mutting is great fun, secondly when you play this solo, vairy it like hell,
if you play it the same the whole way through, it will be percived as an easy power cord type of song,....but when you vairy and mute it it sounds fun and funky...and that makes the open chords in the chours sound even more powerful......and if your lucky.....seductive

just get a dave and tim version and listen to it. the song will become so much easier.

It sounds a lot better and is a lot easier to learn from accoustic. Live at Luther is a good place to start.

lolllll.... Say goodbye is about a one night stand... When you said love song you shoulda wanted to learn how to play some shit like mayer - comfortable or crush. Although since i've established my thoughts as that, i'd assume say goodbye would be more suiting for these girls :D.

And yeah it sounds fine in standard acoustic as long as you mix it up quite a bit. If youw anted to get crazy play the shit on a 12er and it'll make it sound a bit more full and the mutes will really stand out.

Last time I got asked to play a love song I sang Waited All My Life by Raul Midon. The response was awesome

Last weekend I went on a camping trip up to Joshua Tree. As I always do, I played a little campfire set, and was able to get a great response from the audience, and unlike high school, I didn't have to play Crash or Your body is a wonderland! Yeah! Of course, I played Stairway to Heaven, Wish You were here, redemption song, tears in heaven, and Flake, but I pulled it off playing Satellite and Clarity as my required Matthews/Mayer pieces. There were some phishheads in the audience as well, so I got to play bathtub gin as well.
Awesome trip.
