I get to Play a DM3MD!

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I always thought Mayer used one of Dave Matthew's Martins but Ive never seen a video of him with one. The guitar from No Such Thing on leno is just an HD-35. If anyone has ever seen Mayer's 'A-List' videos, he has a guitar with a signature on the fingerboard but its not a Matthews sig. The headstocks arent the same. I dont know whos guitar it is. Its a dreadnaught shaped guitar as well and was much earlier than Mayers sig.

i'm glad you're rockin the DM3MD soon! i own one, and i guess i take it for granted sometimes in that i dont play it as often as i would like. playing in a band and going from crappy show to crappy show, bringing out the DM3MD makes no sense. i'll tell ya though, this guitar really shines in the studio, and has the raw power that a lot of other guitars lack.

i've made some modifications to mine (like a bone nut/saddle, waverlies, and some sweet FWI bridge pins) and I love it more and more everytime i play it.

the best part of the DM3MD is when you are playing a DMB song, and you hear the subtle little nuances that you only thought dave could do. the engelmann top is very complex with overtones, and the little bell like harmonics and overtones come out nicely...just like when dave does some palm muting and some fingerstyle work.

i hope you enjoy the guitar when you play it!

oh and before i forget, there is always a lot of talk about Mayer owning 2 or 3 DM3MD's...an article came out when Mayer first hit stage popularity in acoustic guitar magazine. I have to look for the article, but in the article, it shows John with sunglasses on, playing outdoors with a DM3MD. The article also is an interview with Mayer, who made a quote like "I beat all the critics to the comparison"....the comparison being Dave Matthews, and beating them to the point is him playing the DM3MD...he also states that he owns one DM3MD...the article came out with his Room for Squares album, so whatever that date is...

I'll look for the article and scan a picture if I find it. If anyone's interested, PM me and I'll send some pictures of my DM3MD up close and personal.

Yeah you're right. Sadly enough he wrote Your Body Is A Wonderland on a DM3MD. Read it in one of the articles he wrote for acoustic guitar mag.

 Lovely. So If dave had never had a signiture martin guitar made, that song may have turned out very different. Sigh.

nah hes got i think 3, 2 i can prove. cause on the AGT DVD in some song, or before or after or something, hes playing his DM3MD, a string busts, he walks to the back of a stage, and is handed another one. so hes got atleast 2 and i think a third.

On a side note, I'd love to see Mayer solo with an acoustic and just improvising.
