Question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Maybe it has something to do with your head phones?

Are you listening to an album or a live show?

im listening to a live show, dave and tim.. i'm using a korg tuner set on guitar, and its clearly different.
Its sounds flat compared to his. I'm using a martin DX-1 with fishman martix natii pickup. Its quite frustrating, when i not play along it sounds fine but then when i do it sounds fucking flat as hell compared to his.

If your listening to a live show it could very well be the recording ofcourse.
Other than that i don't think the album would be off-key. Is it only when using your headphones?

Could iy just be the difference in quality of guitar's?

When i play be myself i think, ok thats sounds cool. Then when you play along its like, whoa Dave sounds totally different.

Maybe quality, old strings something like that?

When was the last time you changed your strings? It could be your strings are dead making it sound out of tune when it is in tune. Dave, being a proffessional musician, changes his strings I gaurantee before every show.

This is probably not it but make sure the chord/line from your headphones isn't sitting against the strings while you play. I always forget that and it sounds terrible.
