So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Also i looked at pats vid thread but my computer cant process the video the right way so its very choppy, sounds great though. Well Brushfire Dancer, Trippin' Billies can work out to be a tough song to work out
The thing that really made it work for me was this...:
First:learn the chords, until you can switch from one to the other.
2nd :learn the words, until you can sing it in your head without the music.
3rd :learn the chords and words together, until you can hear how the music was created from the words.
4th :practice like a mo fo'.
Ultimately, you will own this song and play it like it was Free Fallin'
peace out

if you have an acoustic version of the song, the verse is the nature intro with like 2 pull offs (keep that in mind) the rest is just slides to chords (i cant explain for dick) bah

The biggest thing is practice it slowly. Don't try and be fast right away. Gain proficiency with the finger movements and the chords then speed it up when you are doing it right. It takes time don't worry about it.
This might help you. I don't play the exact way tabbed on here. I try and make things as quick and efficient as far as hand movement as possible.
Code: Select all
E:--------------------------------
B:---------------------------------
G:----6--4/--0----7------4/5-------
D:----2--2---0----7-------------9--
A:--------------3/5-------------9--
E:-5------------------8~~~~~--5/7--
3 (2) (1) 4 (1) (1)
I play
Code: Select all
E:--------------------------------
B:---------------------------------
G:----6--4/--0----7------4/5-------
D:----2--2---0----7--------------9--
A:--------------3/5----3~--------9--
E:-5---------------------------5/7--
3 (2) (1) 4 (1) (1)
This makes it easier to do the 4/5 slide. When you move to put your finger on the 3 on the A string put your middle finger on the 4 to do the 4/5 slide. It is easier for me and it is the same pitch.

billies is one of those that i tried 4 or 5 different times before i got it. tried tried, couldn't do it, come back a month later try try, no dice, come back a couple months try try...and kept the same pattern until i just suddenly got it. and in like 5 min. i suggest you come back to it after you've matured a bit if you're a new player.

Watch Storytellers or any other vid of Dave playing it and just mimic his hand movements and even if you're not hitting the right notes, that'll come with time. I was struggling and then watched a few vids and it just clicked.

definately. and for me, it was just a matter of sitting down and actually learning it. every time i looked at the tab it seemed so damn complicated, but once i just sucked it up, it wasnt bad at all.

it's all about accuracy
once you learn where to put your fingers don't try to rock out full speed - it's all about accuracy
play it slooooowwwwly (to a
metradome if need be) and play very accurately
as with all songs, if you play it sloppy 100 times, its a lock that the 101st will be sloppy as well.
If you play a song 100 times accurately (but maybe slower), chances are the 101st time will be accurate as well.
after a while you'll wonder how that verse was even hard in the first place. speed comes with practice. you'll get it man! good luck
btw, i'll send you some sloooooow audio clips with explination if you want. just lemme know

One thing i did to make it a little easier was instead of hitting the 5th fret E string in the beginning i hit the open A string. this makes it much easier to make that first stretch since you dont have to use your ring finger. Its almost the same pitch, its not as deep but i think the average ear cant tell a difference.
also, does anyone play 8 7 instead of this 8~~~~~, how does dave really play it? i dont know what sounds better
