So does anyone like this guy. i guess some of his stuff is ok. i think his guitar pieces being always in open tuning start sounding the same. and while i think the kid can wail, i think he sings out of his range too much. but i guess he's ok.

it's emo=way too sappy. i write sappy crap and that guy beats me. i used to listen to him sometimes. i heard about him a while ago and listened to him for a while, the first cd anyway. i dunno. there's a difference between good wailing and bad wailing and this guy takes the cake on bad wailing. screams most every song...yeah it's the style but it's grating. his lyrics use a lot of big words to make up for ill-concieved content. i don't know. wouldn't this go under nDMB, though?

yeah...he's actually pretty good when he's singing softer, mellower songs.

I severely dislike the way he feels the need to yell all the time. Its really grating on my ears. His guitar playing is nothing special at all. I think he sounds a lot better with a band behind him filling him out, but that doesnt mean I like him with them. The lyrics are the worst part...theyre dripping with sap. Its like maple syrup.

(Confession: I almost like the new one theyre playing...w/ full band...hands down. But just the last 30 seconds. And dont tell anyone that.)

EDIT: Isaac, I swear I didnt read your post, and its funny how "grating" was the word that came to my mind as well...its the best way to describe it. :)

hehe. it's not very new. ;) anyway, yeah...if you have to express "emotion" by yelling all the time you need some serious work with your songwriting skills.

Hehe, since I am from Jersey, I definetley grew up with emo type music and I am and have been a big fan of Dashboard aka Chris Carberra (spelling). I do agree with you guys that he does wail a lot, and I definetley didnt enjoy it the first time I listened to it either, but I think its more of an acquired taste. He has a really good voice, and yes his songs are very "emo" and thats why I think his wailing fits in perfectly with his style. I like Dashboard because in my opinion each song is filled with emotion, its as if the music and the lyrics just jump up and grab you. In his softer songs, he sings softer ... in his more depressing songs, he wails, its all in what he is trying to convey in the song.

I also dont think that his lyrics are shitty. I think that if you actually sit down and read his lyrics, most of them are amazing, he has a great way of conveying his thoughts through his lyrics. But I dunno, thats just me ...
His guitar playing is alright, nothing fantastic ... most beginners with a little bit of theory knowleadge in order to get those damn tunings down could play all of his stuff in under a year ..
