Unread post by paywad927 » Wed Sep 17, 2003 7:40 am

i just listened to this song and decided i wanted to learn how to play it. i looked at the tabs and i think this ones gonna take a while. so for all you guitar masters out there who can play this song, i was curious how long it took to learn this one. btw, this is an awesome sounding song, almost as good as the OSW intro  .

I can play the OSW intro, but I have only heard of Classical Gas, except when Lisa "played" it on the simpsons for a few seconds when Lenny asks her to, during a protest outside the power plant.

I answered it.. but keep in mind that I regularly play lost of classical music and found the finger picking in this to be a trivial exercise. If you aren't good at fingerpicking, it will take a while.

Funny you mention this song. A friend of mine fell in love with it the day he heard it just about a year ago. Starting in September of last year, he borrowed his dad's classical guitar, which was nothing more than a practice guitar, and set out to learn it. Without any help from anyone, he bought the sheet music, learned how to read the music, mastered the shit in about 6 months and played it flawlessly at the talent show...blew me away. Never even strummed a guitar until the day he set out to learn the song....damn impressive. The crowd of 1000 thought so, too.

On to the question, it worked in about 5 months for this guy... about three weeks for me, off and on playing. I had already leaped into fingerstyle playing so the technique wasn't so new, but I remember getting into that kind of style took awhile..
