hehe sorry.. I figured if I wasn't elaborate enough, people would discount my opinion.. the simple version is:

DON'T use light guages strings and go 543212, it will hurt guitar; if not now, over time it will.

DO us this mixed set, .036 .029 .017 .012 .010 .015

what you really need is just a raised-B neck.. you need a shorter scale length.. at worst buy a normal guitar and have someone make you a neck for it.

most guitars are actually 25.5 inches in length. or about 648mm. this is what tensions are based on when you look on the back of your pack of strings. i didn't know taylors were so long. wow. anyways. when i said 17 pounds force. i meant 17 Kg. my bad. that's about 37lbf.

for a standard 25.5 in neck the tension is about 164 lbf. and in raised B like dave does it the tension is 199. so i agree with geekmug. but some guitars are able to hold this tension. my buddy has a guild that has had heavy strings on it for 20+ years and it is holding just fine. the tension on that is almst 220 lbf. so go to a guitar tech and see what they might tell ya cuz all guitars are different and will handle the tension differently.

The problem is you can't go too high on it with a 7 capo, especially the gravediggerlike part in SOL.

But if we are obsessing about playing exactly like dave.. the capo gives us the wrong octave B on top.

troll??? first of all im 6 foot 3. and second of all, i haven't said anything that anyone else hasn't so why are you singling me out. and third, i meant what i said, you play dave to be dave, not becasue you love the music. what, you can't get a girl w/o a guitar so you picked up one learned 5 songs, sing just like dave hopeing that some beautiful girl would see you and come running and throw your guitar down and make love to you right there in front of everyone. well you know what, you're wrong, you're doing it for the wrong reasons, and its people like you should never be allowed to play a guitar nor listen to a damn cd. you don't deserve it.

oh and ps. for immaturity reasons....F*CK YOU!!

Gee app, you nailed me right on the head. *laughs* Again, I don't really care, but good job attacking me instead of apologizing for disrupting an otherwise useful discussion. I would even touch the "you play dave to be dave" because you hopefully are competant enough to do a search and find that I post all originals (except for one contest).. and sound nothing like dave. But you got me, man, you got me.

Why did I single you out, because you were the first and only person to interrupt the much more factual, technical evaluation of tuning a guitar to high-B, and attack me and my musicianship.

And, apparently the definition of "troll" was lost on you.
