daves progress with the guitar...

Unread post by shaggy » Thu Sep 22, 2005 8:28 pm

obviously the more you play over the years the better you will get, but how good really is he now compared to even like 2000. Ever since btcs he has had full input with the band on guitar arrangements being the only guitarist in dmb (basicly) besides santana, and he added some extra guitar tracks in SD since he has learned and spent a lot of time with tim as a friend and teacher, and as much as i would love to have tim back on an album or on tour, could dave put down tracks that could be the comparison to what tim has had in the input of the first 3 albums? i wonder how good he really is now.

No. His random fills on some songs off Stand Up are awful. Lets face it Dave is a rhythm guitarist and is just flat out bad at soloing.

i've never really heard dave solo, besides jimi thing, is there anything anyone has of dave doing an electric guitar solo? I've only heard he has done one with an electric on "The Maker." with Lanois.

exactly.
hosting the oscars is like winning the heisman trophy. no matter how you do in the ballgame, or whatever, they can't take it away from you. and even if you kill your wife and an ex-waiter, they still have a hard time taking it away from you

He played a pretty cool solo in the middle of two step at the gorge 2003. Its was obviously easy pentatonic, but still a cool addition.

The only "solo" I like to hear from Dave is that thing in the middle of Recently. I'm not a guitarist, I don't know the right term.

I have a good recording of Dave soloing during Jimi Thing at Hershey in '04. If I wasn't computer retarded I would upload it.

Dave might be a bad lead guitarist but he is probably one of the best if not THE best rhythm players out there today.

There's nothing wrong with being a rhythm guitarist right?

So it doesnt really matter how good he is at soloing.

John Mayer is a blues guitarist who brilliantly wrote syrupy sweet pop tunes to establish himself in the world of Top 40 music which equates into him having the "bankability" to be able to go off and start a blues trio and play blues like God intended him to.
