am i asking too much on my guitar?

Unread post by mattinbeloit » Wed Sep 21, 2005 4:12 pm

Ok so i have been trying to sell my Taylor all koa K-20ce for a while now. Its a 2001 and has the fishman pickup. I'm asking $2900 for it which seems reasonable to me since this is how much i payed for it, it is in mint condition, and taylor does not make the koa line anymore. I have had this on the umgf for a while and several other sites and nothing. A'm I asking too much for it or something?

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

yup. once you buy a guitar it automatically drops significantly in value. you should try closer to probably the $2400 range.

if you need to sell it quickly, then drop the price, if you're in no rush, keep it as high as you want and eventually somebody may buy it.

If you paid $2900 new then I doubt you are gonna get that much for it. If you wait around you might find an uneducated buyer who will take it off your hands.

That's a pretty good price for that guitar tho...isn't it like a high $3000 guitar?

Where did he say that he bought it brand new? Its a 2001 so theres a very good chance that he bought it used for $2900.

Well, the store ordered it brand new andhas had it in there since 2001, i got it last year so i bought it new. The price for one of those things from taylor is like $5000 but those prices are overrated, and from looking at other stores before i got it i got a good price on it.

if you bought the guitar new for $2900, then no, you can't expect to get $2900 back for the guitar. Every high quality guitar manufacturer lists MSRP on their websites that are higher than any store could ever imagine to sell them for. Most stores will sell taylors, martins, larrivee, gibson, fender, etc for 65-75% of MSRP.

To answer your question, if you bought it brand new for $2900, why would somebody pay $2900 for it used? It just doesnt make sense.

You may try to find somebody willing to trade guitars with you (and exchange some cash to make up value differences).
