Play like Justin King...

Unread post by jalapena » Mon Sep 12, 2005 7:19 pm

Okay, I've seen him play a couple times thanks to some of the videos you guys posted. What I was wondering is, where does someone go about learning to play like that?? Were these guys just messin' with the guitar one day and busted out some crazy shit, or lessons? It seems to be mostly the technique in the strumming hand (I'm still strugglin' to get the pinky involved). Any advice, direction to another thread? :?

MAGIC

and why struggle to get the pinky involved? Justin King (or very many guitarists at all) doesn't use their pinky finger on the strumming hand

I don't know. Lately, I've been on this kick where I feel like I need to start really upping my effort in technique and the guitar in general. I think it's mostly because a buddy of mine, who's been playin' forever, wants me to open for him sometime, but I just don't feel comfortable with my skill level yet.

I've been trying to play more fingerstyle lately as well, and have some trouble getting the pinky on my right hand to cooperate, but most of the practice things I've seen online don't include the pinky when they notate which finger to use, so I am just using thumb, index, middle, and ring.

that was my point with my first post, most guitar techniques will not require you to use your pinky on your picking hand

Damn u FJ, "majic" what the hell? I thought there was no potential for osmosis? Isn't that the crux of all my discussion with you? i.e. can you just insert skill into my grill...

OF COURSE YOU CAN'T, it's called practice and proper technqiue.

So bro, learn how to do the "flamenco strum" for starters :)

(I'm pretty drunk right now and lost a shot to get a 15 min. radio spot in a bag job voting contest at a local club so fuck y'all :) )

I recommend learning such great heights, by Iron and wine if you want to learn an easy fingerpicking song.

As far as Justins technique, just keep at it, you'll get it. Remember though, he's got a lot going on in his songs, don't be suprised if your versions sound considerable more "empty" than his. Just watch the vids and listen to the songs, look for the most minute of details.

the vaginal fluid they are secreting is the same composition of urine minus the uric acid and phosphorous. i learned that in 11th grade anatomy. btw, sometimes it does have a FAINT smell of Pizzle.
