------->MARTIN D-35 or TAYLOR 810CE????
It's me yet again fellas. I've been shopping around for a new acoustic and have been playing a few Martins and Taylors at my local guitar shop. A few weeks ago I started leaning towards getting a factory new Martin D-35 from Elderly.com for $1399, but then I heard the OFFICIAL TAYLOR CLINICIAN STEPHEN KING play at the same shop. He is so good as fingerpicking that he won the 1994 NATIONAL FINGERPICKING CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!! He was playing a 914CE Taylor and he made it sound fucking amazing. I met him after the show and he said that Taylors are simply the best. The guitar tech at the store also told me that he has to repair far more Martins than Taylors and that Taylors, although fucking expensive, are well worth the money. I have found that I can either get a factory new Martin D-35 for $1400 or a used Taylor 810CE (made in 1998, doesn't have the NT neck or ES electronics) for around $1500. What should I do?

ive heard a lot of people say they like the pre-NT necks more than the NT necks, so they must sound amazing. $1500 is a really really good deal too, so even if you just wanted to buy it to sell it for more you should get it. id still go with the 810ce because i love taylors and plan to have an amazing one one day. ive never played a taylor i hated. taylors are very consistant. martins are hit or miss.

no, i would tell him who wanted me to assassinate him for a hefty cash rewardThe Man of The Hour wrote:shane!!!! If you had a chance to assassinate the CEO of Martin, would you?
All joking aside, I'd even go for the taylor there. I fell in love with an 810 at my local shop.

Well, Timmy has been playing a D-35 for a long time. It's also very similar to the D-28. I love the D-28, and plan to own one someday. You can guess which way I am trying to sway you
.
I really like Taylors, I really do. I just prefer martins like the D-28 much more than all the Taylors I've played. Also, for the rythmic sound of the low strings, like Dave does on songs like Two Step, Minaretes, Say Goodbye, Bartender, Dancing Nancies, and so on, the Martin really makes them sound much more pleasing to that style. On the other end, I like the Taylors and Martins the same, but it's that lower end that I like about martins, and seals the deal with me.
Taylors = Damn Good!
Martin = Damn Fucking Good!
(but for 12 strings, I do tend to like Taylors more, but that's just 12 strings, not 6.)

HD-35 is a big step up from the D-35...I have both and the D-35 is vintage no less and the HD-35 still is a more balanced guitar.gravedigger wrote:in this case the Taylor but I'd rather an HD-35.
