triads!
major triad of any key is made up of the 1, 3, and 5 of that key. (always relate to the major scale)
C Major scale:
C D E F G A B
The first is C, the third is E, and the fifth is G.
Therefore...major triad of the C scale: C, E, G. Those notes make up a C chord.
Look at this:
Code: Select all
E--3--
B--1--
G--0--
D--2--
A--3--
E-----
Now the minor triad is similar, but you flat the third. 1 b3 5. (related to the major scale.)
C Major scale:
C D E F G A B
Take the first (C), flat the third (Eb) and take the fifth (G.)
Tada! C minor triad: C, Eb, and G.
