Two quick questions: grey street & granny
im still a begginner...so forgive me if these questions are lame.. but i was wondering if anyone has a video for granny? i can play the verses but i cant really figure out the strumming pattern for the chorus.. and also i was told by a buddie that when im playing the verse to grey street i should let the D string ring (this is on a six string).. but i dont like the way it sounds.. just wondering how other people play it, or how they mute the string? thanx

Here is Pat's video for Granny, very helpful for the chorus.

Here is my video for Grey Street. I mute the D string because I think it sounds much better muted and its how Dave plays it.

i dont like the D string open for grey street, but in tripping billies i think it works better
For us living any other ways was nuts. with all the goodie-goodies working shitty jobs for bum pay checks, took the subway work and worried about their bills were dead. they were suckers, they had no balls. if we wanted something we just took it, and if anybody complained twice they got hit so hard believe me they never complained again

It makes a HUGE difference, almost so much so that it's not even something comparable, to play Grey Street on a 12er and not a 6er.mrjones wrote:i dont like the D string open for grey street, but in tripping billies i think it works better
Muting the D on a 6er makes a lot of sense but on a 12er it needs to ring out.
In my ever so humble opinion.

I play it on a 12 and I think it sounds terrible with the open string. It dominates the entire sound.charliemike wrote:It makes a HUGE difference, almost so much so that it's not even something comparable, to play Grey Street on a 12er and not a 6er.mrjones wrote:i dont like the D string open for grey street, but in tripping billies i think it works better
