an attempt at singing

Unread post by UNCcrombie » Fri Aug 26, 2005 9:56 pm

so i did this real quick. pat told me i lacked a key, and told me to break down each word by note. i'm having a real problem doing that. see, it seems to me (in my head) im singing it right, but then on playback i hear what he's talking about. any suggestions?

What Pat told you is right on. You're not hitting the notes you're supposed to be hitting. You're only a hair away from being completely monotone.
My suggestion is to pick songs with easy melodies then record yourself singing it and do it over and over until you can "feel" that you're hitting the correct notes. The biggest challenge with singing is getting over that "it sounds right in my head" hurtle. That just takes practice and persistence. It also helps to have a pair of closed back headphones so you can hear yourself better. Oh, and for the love of god don't do any screaming or straining for notes, no good will come of it.
