thats the problemGrachi wrote:i probably do have improper technique. I can't think what else would give me all this pain. I will definately get some sort of lesson on technique. because i mean i still think i play too hard like i use my arm more then my fingers when i fret... and even though i think about not doing that when I play when i start jamming or something or going really fast I find myself doing it even more so.
what happens too is i think about not pressing too hard/using just my fingers so much that i start messing up the song cuz i cant just relax and play. I am worried about pressing too hard or not doing it right.
I imagine it will just take time. its a rut I got myself in and probably one of the downsides of being self taught. Cause back when I started I didn't look into anything about technique until months after, which would probably have already started to ingrain the habits.

You're lucky ... My ring finger and pinky go numb on my strumming hand a couple of times a week. Not funThe Scarlet Pimpernel wrote:proper technique...what the hell is that....i've never used "proper technique" in my life and my arm has never had a problem, or my fingers, or anything else...fatjack wrote:you could possibly have improper technique, thats usually the cause of these sort of things

well I've tried pulling my arm down and relaxing it more, and using my fingers and that has definately help with the pain. the only time it ever starts to surface again is a song with a lot of Barr chords (aka Jack Johnson). But now I can jam for like 10 minutes and be ok.
But if I ever get in trouble again, I will definately give it a go

been there before.
my best most drunk recent move. was the old slide down the railing on the stairs. had a 50 dollar dress shirt on, it caught the top of the stairs, snagged, and i bit it hard on the way down and fucking ripped the shirt. my friends were dying laughing. my arm hurt for like a week and a half, i was more pissed about ruining the shirt, i still had to head to the bars that night.

Ouch. Freakin' booze, so good but it blanks my memory. That kind of shit (like your dress shirt antics and my lame-o wrist) makes me happy that in lieu of booze there's always trees, I've never sprained anything in the forest.
