ok so i write a lot of songs, and i dont know a lot about music itself, like theroy and chord names and stuff like that, i mean i know the names to all the barre chords and standard open chords but a lot of the time i kinda make my own chords and idk what to naem em, ive tried to use chordfinder.com but it doesnt always work, so if some one cold help me name these that would be awsome, or maybe direct me somewhere to learn to do it myself that would be even better cuz i actually wanan learn what im doing now, not jstu have it done for me, i took lessons for about 2 years and i was young then and wasnt interested in theroy and stuff liek that so i quit my lessons, and now i entirely regret it and as soon as my old guitar teacher gets an opening im taking lessons agian but untill then can i have a lil help
thanks in advance
Code: Select all
these are the chords used, not in any order, and u can ignore the single note picking parts thats mostly for my refernce cuz i havea horrible memory
Am E G ? Cadd9? ?

the second chord is a Dadd9(no5), not a Dsus2.
the notes used in the chord (from low to high) are D F# E. a normal Dmaj chord has D F# A. this chord doesnt have the A, but adds in the 9th.

gotcha.
but wait, i thought you have had to have the complete chord in order for it to be an add chord? if not, then what differentiates sus's from add's?

sus has no 3rd, the fifth has nothing to do with it

heres a nice list. the numbers refer to the interval in the scale (ie, the Cmaj Scale C D E F G A B. C = 1, D = 2, etc). a b3 would mean half step below the third, # would mean half step above, etc.
• maj - 1 3 5
• min - 1 b3 5
• maj7 - 1 3 5 7
• (dom)7 - 1 3 5 b7
• m7 - 1 b3 5 b7
• sus2 - 1 2 5
• sus4 - 1 4 5
• aug - 1 3 #5
• dim - 1 b3 b5
• add2 - 1 2 3 5
• add4 - 1 3 4 5
• (dom)9 - 1 3 5 b7 9
• maj9 - 1 3 5 7 9
• min9 - 1 b3 5 b7 9
• dom11 - 1 3 5 b7 9 11
• maj11 - 1 3 5 7 9 11
• min11 - 1 b3 5 b7 9 11
• dom13 - 1 3 5 b7 9 13
• maj13 - 1 3 5 7 9 13
• min13 - 1 b3 5 b7 9 13
• Dim(full) - 1 b3 b5 bb7(6)
• aug7 - 1 3 #5 b7
oh.. and i just like putting the (no5) in there.
