singing questions
ok so i've just taped myself singing. i've been like just practicing for a couple weeks and i think i no the right technique and stuff. (though i'm still having trouble with holding notes and have to take breaths very often) anyway, i sang on key for most dave stuff, tried granny, gravedigger crush (no high notes though). also tried time of your life by green day that went pretty well. but my big problem is that i didn't sound good at all when i was singing in a different way(that i can't say) for example on gravedigger the GRAVEDIGGER (when he's yelling) i can't do. nor could i see black dog (led zeppelin) very well. this is bad since i want to start a rock band. one last thing, my voice like fades out after i sing a couple words notes whatever, is this because i run out of air (it doesnt feel like it) Basically, does yelling-singing just come with practice, do you more naturally stay on key once you practice more, and i sound bland at the end, does this come with practice too? lol sorry for these dumb questions.

Yeah, just sing what feels natural. Also, some of the easiest songs to sing, because he doesn't have the greatest voice (but they fit so perfect for his songs). Yes, I am talking about Art Garfunkel . . . . kidding, I mean Bob Dylan. He started as a poet, and then someone forced a guitar on him and told him to start singing. His earliest stuff is easy, but sounds good.
Also, yes you don't like your voice, because of 2 things
1- Because you are just starting to really sing, and it will take time for it to evovle into a professional voice. You should have heard me 3 years ago, I had a Horrrible voice. You just have to keep practicing.
2- Because you are not used to hearing yourself sing. When I sing, I think I sound good, but then I would record it, and think that I sing badly. It's not that, it's you are not used to that sound, everyone else is, you just have to eventualy get used to it.
Anyways, happy sinigng

sinigng? shit...i need to learn how to do that.
and yeah...bob dylan's stuff is easy. his newer stuff is hard because his voice is blown out.
like a rollingstone is a fun one to sing, and really easy to play so you don't have to worry about the guitar part at all.
definitely sing with your own voice, and record yourself both as a means to improve and also a way to see how far you're progressing. just keep practicing. it gets better eventually.
don't worry about yelling-singing for now at all...work on building a foundation of a natural voice and then work on other techniques. do simple songs and progress. sort of like guitar...just keep working on harder and harder stuff. you'll get there.

Take your favorite parts of all those posts and that's my post! hehe. they covered it pretty much.
I also hate my voice. I hadnt listened to myself talk in a normal conversatoin voice, ever. I heard myself on an answering maching and lterally cringed. Its pretty gross.... I feel bad for people who have to listen to me. haha. But i'm hoping what thespian said is right and that i will learn to deal with it....
Personally i think that ben harper has an easy vocal range to use. cause his isnt that big.....

Yes you are running out of air, that's why the words are fading.
Breathing is one of the most important parts of singing.
Make sure you take deep breathes but dont flood your lungs, this should come with practice.
When you breathe in, your stomach is meant to expand, not your ribcage.
Watch a baby lying on its back and notice that when they breathe in their stomach lifts up. That's how you're meant to breathe.
Once you get the proper support for your vocal chords then things will start falling into place.
Also, put your finger in your mouth and touch your pallete. Reach right to the back, right where the palette gets soft. When singing you need to raise that part, its called raising your palette. If you concentrate on breathing and the raising your palette you should notice a difference in your voice.
Keep recording yourself, it will get better.
good luck

yup. or you can put a book or something on your stomach and practice breathing to expand your stomach, not your chest. i used to do it and it helped with the whole fading voice thing a lot.
you may think you have enough breath and stuff, but sometimes you really don't and it takes a while to get in tune with your breathing because it's a natural thing, but you do get used to it eventually.
anyway, best of luck, as trippin said. hope this all helps!
